I was in search of the best bath towels on the market-- well, the most luxurious and softest towels-- for my family! I hadnt bought towels in a long time. I really wanted hotel quality towels or something comparable. I was seeking plush, super soft and thick towels that were absorbant. I am a big spa person and bathing queen, so I really like nice toilletries and bath products.

After a bunch of research I settled on the William Sonoma Signature Towels- 800-thread count. I heard they were divine so I placed an order for them. But, were they the best towels out there? I have to say NO.

My William Sonoma Bath Towels were a great blue color with a white formal monogram, but they werent quite the plush, soft cotton I was hoping for. They were a tight weave that was absorbant but not terribly soft. SHUCKS!!! Did I mention they were the largest towels/bath sheets I have ever seen!! But, where was the luxury? In addition, they had holes in them! I dont know what happened, but somehow through the monograms or packaging, they got wripped. (see my William Sonoma Home Review for how great they handled resending them to me!)

I then decided to head out to Bloomingdales to check out their bath towel section. Did they have the best towels on the market? I think they had 500 different varieties and I tried them all. Everything from Vera Wang to Ralph Lauren to Donna Karen and Bloomingdales private label brand. But, honestly, compared to all of those, the William Sonoma ones were exceptional. YET-- they still weren't what I wanted. I wanted ultra soft and luxury. Kind of like the Westin Heavenly Bed in a towel form.

Oh, but did I mention I didnt want WHITE? (not with kids!) Most of the turkish towels only come in white. BUMMER.

Bottom line, I will keep my William Sonoma bath towels for now and be generally happy, but I really do want something a lot cushier and softer. So, if you know of the best bath towels for softness and luxury, please send them along!!!

Reference from William Sonoma site: Our thick 800-gram-weight Turkish cotton is loomed with dense loops and a piqué dobby. Towels made in Turkey. May be monogrammed for an additional $6 charge. Machine wash.

Dimensions:
Washcloths, set of 2, 12" sq.
Hand Towel, 20" x 30"
Bath Towel, 28" x 55"
Bath Sheet, 39" x 71"

Have you tried Sears? Or Bed & Bath? Those are two of the places we'll be checking soon.

In response to Jo's comment from Jan 30, 2008 at 3:12PM:

It is hugely popular and typically has very high quality stuff. It just wasnt what I was looking for.

I'm surprised. I've never shopped here but my daughter who didn't put WS on her registry told me it was a popular registry store. Jo
