Why Did I Get Married? Review Summary

Tyler Perry's latest foray into feature film, Why Did I Get Married stars Perry, Janet Jackson and Jill Scott in another of his stories about relationships. As a group of married college friends gather in Colorado for their yearly reunion, they begin to question their marriages and relationships after one of the couples reveals their infidelity. Reviewers felt "The theatrical version of Why Did I Get Married scored points, but not big points" even "through every emotion through joy to soul-wrenching pain". Reviewers were divided on the cast, some praising the acting of the women leads and at least one writer thought that, as an actress, Janet Jackson is a great singer. While praise for the film was not stratospherically high, no one hated it. Some took issue with the way some scenes played out, thinking them unrealistic. Realistic or not, reviewers felt the film will resonate and "You will definitely be talking about this film the next day after seeing it"

I love this movie i think tyler perry is so funny and cool. I am a big fan of tyler perry i have just about all his movies. But this movie is just so funny and it is so true i do not want to really explain to much of it i might just give it all away but i will tell you a little bit about it. The movie moved you  and head you asking the question why did i get married. the lead played by Jante Jackson did a great job as the head doctors getting you to think. the actress that i looked up to the most was Jill scott she took a lot off her husband and would have stayed in the relationship had he not brought his mistress on the trip. If it had been me i would have known something was wrong when he made me drive all the way to the mountain when the mistree got to ride in the air plaine along side her husband. Being familiar with Tyler Perry's work as Madea, I expected a comedy.  This was not the case with "Why Did I Get Married".  Other than a few chuckles here and there, this is a serious story about marriage - the highs and lows, problems, etc.  It was quite sad at times.  While a good movie from the point of you of telling the story well and some interesting characters, I think that many others like myself would expect something completely different from Tyler Perry.  I definitely recommend it as a drama but don't let Mr. Perry's name on it fool you into thinking its a typical work from him.... read full review »

Tyler Perry truly outdone himself with this one.  I must say that it was a relief to watch one of his movies that didn't have the Madea character thrown all through it.  The characters were really thought out and the storyline was heartfelt. 

This movie took me through many different emotions....  I laughed so hard...I cried until my chest hurt...I was angered until I wanted to shout...  Yes, TP outdid himself on this one.

The Movie, "Why Did I Get Married?", is an amazing accomplishment for Tyler Perry as a director. As actors, Janet Jackson and Jill Scott were gret - but Scott was clearly the breakaway. Her deeply moving protrayal was so engaging I found myself both empathizing strongly for her - through every emotion through  joy to soul-wrenching pain.

Get this movie, a group of your ADULT friends and enjoy!

I love Tyler Perry and this play/film has a great story for everyone.  It has one big story line but what I liked most about it was that each different character in the movie/film has a smaller story line which ties the movie all together.  Great actors in both the film and play and one of his better films/plays.  Would watch it over and over and over and over....

This was an very good movie. Most singers who expand to film cannot act but Jill Scott did I excellent job & played the character very well. This movie makes you laugh & cry & leave you feeling like you got your money worth. Excellent storyline & everyone can relate. You will definately br talking about this film the next day after seeing it

This is a great movie.  It has a great story line.  I have seen this movie three times at the theater and now I have the DVD and still enjoying every minute of it.  I also saw the play of "Why did I Get Married" and I do have to say the movie was more entertaining for me.

I thought the movie was great, but only had 1 unrealistic part which was when they were all at the table telling secrets. The minute that happened not only should she have hit him with the bottle but everybody else would have got him too and would no longer speak to him.

I thought this movie was great.  It was funny while still managing to touch on serious issues.  The actors did a great job and could have been people that I personally knew.  I am definitely glad I got a chance to see it.
