Whole Foods - Plantation, FL —

Whole Foods Market in Plantation is a must-stop
There are lots of Whole Foods around the country.  I often stop in this one just west of Lauderdale.  I try not to go in hungry, but occasionally (like yesterday!) I do so and find myself plunking down an extra $50 for many of the tantalizing prepared foods in the deli case.  The good news is that they all come labeled, so you can go home and try to re-create your favorite salads and entrees.

Whole Foods, if you're not familiar with it, is a natural market that sells fresh, organic and natural products and foods.  The Plantation store (just north of I-595 on University Blvd) is the largest natural foods store in the area.  (There's also one in Naples)

The vast assortment of foods and goods is mind-blowing:  there's a program called Florida Flavors, in which the store actively sources local slow foods.  I bought avocado honey yesterday, made in beehives near Florida-grown avocados.  The cheese selection is astounding, as is the olive station (with hard-to-find French Picholines, my favorites), and of course the produce is bee-yoo-ti-ful.  There's also a sushi bar, a juice bar, a coffee roaster, lots of wines and a gourmet chocolate section.   Yikes !!!!!!

Fun Note:   How can you not love a market run by a fellow named Mr. Figley?   ;-)

Don't Read this part if you're hungry!
But it's the prepared foods that thrill the soul and blow the budget.   The cooks at Whole Foods are just top-notch.  Yesterday, I saw homemade blueberry cobbler, breakfast burritos, coconut chicken tenders, mango chicken salad, turkey salad, wild rice salad, cucumbers stuffed with couscous, Thai mango shrimp slaw, Harissa roasted butternut squash (spicy!), country fried chicken, and a to-die-for soup and salad bar.   Okay, I actually BOUGHT most of the things on this list.   Now my refrigerator is in a blissful state.

The Bottom Line:  Libby Loves It!

Whole Foods has really good wheat-free products. I'm allergic to wheat and gluten. However, the closes Whole Foods store to me is an hour and half away.
