I would LOVE to have another White 3100 machine.

I would love to have a never White 3100. I have used my machine for so lonn as a professional machine that I have worn it out. Can't find anything comparable to purchase.

A good value & quality for the price

This was a very good buy for the price. It is a very quiet machine, much lighter than machines years ago. The buttonhole feature is cumbersome and the stitches are not the perfect quality of Scandinavian machines, but a very good all around machine. If I was still into tailoring as I was at one time, I would have chosen a more expensive machine, but this was a good middle ground and I am very satisfied.

Okay for small jobs, gets jammed easily.

I have had this machine for  afew years and I like it, sort of. It generally gets teh job done without damaging my material. However, much too often it gives me trouble. Material get jammed or stuck in the presser foot. The bobbin thread gets caught on something inside and just goes around and around inside the machine, leaviing a tangle of thread when you can finally cut it out of the machine.

This machine is a piece of garbage.

From the minute the box was opened, this was a piece of garbage. Bought it for my daughter, but it doesn't work for sewing anything. It isn't even good enough to be a toy for youngerer sewers. Can't reliably set tensions, can't get extra feet for purposes other than sewing.

The machine is great for everyday use.

This is a great machine for everyday jobs.  I have tried heavy fabrics like upholstery or heavy denim and it bogs down a little.  It does a wonderful job on repairs or sewing outfits.  I used to sew a lot and always owned Singer machines, but this White machine is comparable if not better than a Singer.  I am not sorry at all that I own it.  Years ago I bought a Huskvarna which I simply adored, but my daughter confiscated it on me when she moved out and I really didn't want to invest in such an expensive machine.  Besides lately she sews much more than I do.  So I wanted something inexpensive and simple and I chose the White.  I am more than happy with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone.

Great for both beginners and experienced seamstresses

I'm an average seamstress and love the ease of use for this machine. Ten minutes out of the box and I'm ready to sew. Bobbins wound smoothly, threading was easy to manage, and the lighting was adequate for threading the needle. It sewed evenly and smoothly. Changing the stitch was simple.

The best and easiest sewing machine I ever used.

I enjoyed using this sewing machine. I am new to quilting and with the stylemaker 3100 it was a breeze. The instruction book was pretty easy to follow and whatever you didn't pick up in the book the cd has what you need. Threading the machine is very quick. It also comes with alot of sewing foots.

Don't waste your money!!!

I bought this machine for myself because I thought White was a high quality product and the features were what I was looking for.  When I got it out of the box, I was so impressed that I ran back and bought my daughter the same one. Stylemaker 3100.  Within a week we were having trouble with the stitching being garbled and uneven. You couldn't use the letter stitching, which was my main reason for buying it. Within a year of light use, it would only make straight stitching and zigzag.  (If I had wanted a machine to do that I could have paid 1/4 the price.)  By the time 3 years passed, the machine is unuseable.  It jams every time I use it.  I have to take the foot plate off, adjust the bobbin carrier just 'so', put it back together and sew a short distance and it does it again.  Too bad. I love to sew and I've had some wonderful machines.  I wish I had never seen this machine. **They both have the same problems and they have been a total waste of money.**

My Stylemaker 3100 stopped working after very little time

2

I bought my White Stylemaker 3100 because it seemed like a good value-- a simple machine, reasonably priced with lots of "helping" features, which was good for me, a beginning sewer.  I sewed a few household projects, and while not all of the features were particularly helpful (the buttonhole feature, for instance, and many of the stitch settings), I was satisfied with its service.  Then it sat in the basement for a couple of years.  When I brought it back upstairs to do some costume projects for my son's school, it didn't want to work-- the feed mechanism refused to budge, and the needle just went up and down, very slowly, in the same spot over and over.  I unplugged it, left it overnight, and the next morning, voila!  It was working again.  I sewed several costume pieces, then one day, decided to bring it with me to use at the school.  Voila-- it was no longer working; I was back to the same problem.  This time, it never did recover.  I took it to a repair shop, and they couldn't find an obvious problem-- they guessed that it could be one or both of two motors, and it would cost more than 3 times what I paid for the machine to have it fixed, since it was no longer under warranty.  Needless to say, with as *little* as I was able to get out of this machine, I'm **very disappointed** that it didn't last more than a few years.  (And no, it didn't suffer from any flooding or other mishaps-- it sat, covered, on a table in a basement with typically humid conditions.)
