To the Point

I haven't read Jayne Anne Krentz in a long time. She has a whole list of best sellers some under the name of Amanda Quick. I thought of her as a writer of romantic novels. White Lies is a New York Times Bestseller and it is guaranteed. The publishers, Penguin Group, tell us that if we don't like it send it to them and they'll refund our money. Keep your eye on the deadline for doing this for Penguin books. I liked this book - a lot.
It was published in 2007.

A Closer View.

I don't remember reading any of her books that are "an Arcane Society Novel" so this one took me off guard when the main character, Clare Lancaster, presents herself as an Arcane Society member. She is a sensitive. Her particular ability is that of a human lie detector with the highest score possible - 10. Most of the characters in the book are members of the Arcane Society.

The first 20 pages were a struggle. I didn't think I could get into it though I happen to like the paranormal. By the 40s I was more intrigued and then there came a point of no return when I couldn't put it down and for me that's the best kind of book there is. I say I'm never bored or lonely when I have a book I love to read.

This is a romance novel without a doubt and a mystery wrapped up in one. I can't say it is unpredictable or an edge of the seat thriller because it isn't. What it is is interesting, fun, easy to read and to follow the characters and I can understand why it's a bestseller.

Clare discovers that she has a half sister and that she is the product of a one night stand between her mom and very rich man. When Elizabeth got worried about her marriage she called on Clare who was brought into the circle of her father, Archer Glazebrook, It was in Arizona where she meets Jake Salter and between Clare and Jake murders get solved and romance gets started.

There are a couple of sexual encounters which are described in detail so if that makes you uncomfortable skip this one or skip those parts.

Reading kind of gets in the way - I know how you feel. I hardly ever read unless I'm on vacation, which I'm not but I can't be online all day either. I think you'll enjoy this one. I have a bunch from Doubleday waiting for me in MA! Jo
