Recently my washing machine of 11 years went out (two weeks ago) It was a Sears Kenmore (or to those who know, a Whirlpool). So I found myself out shopping for a new washing machine at our local Sear Hardware and Appliance store. I like the Kenmaore brand since they are made for Sears by Whirlpool and my first one lasted 13 years and I had now had the one I was replacing for 11 years you might say I have had very good luck with this brand. I always purchase the heavy duty model, so that I can wash whatever I want to. I am a firm believer that if I have my own washer I should not have to go to the laundry mat for anything. Upon arriving at Sears I looked over the Kenmores they had to offer along with the Whirlpool brand names. I really did not like any of the ones they had, but was willing to settle for one that was on sale. The salesman told me it was a heavy duty as it did not state it on the machine, but he had a problem. The recent storm had taken out their computers and he could not arrange a delivery date for me. I said this indeed was a problem as I had been without my washer now for a couple of days, since my husband had first tried to repair my old one. So I told him I was sorry, but I would have to go down the road to the Best Buy store and shop there for a washer. The area close to my house just happened to put in several appliance stores all within a 4 to 5 block drive which is bad for them, but good for the customers. The Best Buy sales people were glad to see me as usual, as I am a regular and a Silver premier rewards customer(which is a nice way to mark me as a person who spends a lot of money in their store).I went to the appliance section and found the very same washer, but it was $100 dollars higher, no problem they would match Sears's price. Then I really needed it the next day because my laundry is really piling up, no problem they would match Lowe's next day delivery and free haul away of old washer. I was so happy I would be able to do my laundry within hours 18 to be exact if the delivery drivers were on time. Finally they arrived with my washer, they brought it in ever so carefully and removed the old one. My husband came home and hooked it up and leveled it and we tested it for leaks(Best Buy would have hooked it up, but I had rather my husband do it). It was ready to go, I load it up add the detergeant, softner(new place for that)set the settings and turn it on. The water runs in, the machine starts, it goes for a short time and I notice it gears down. This is strange as it is a heavy duty and is supposed to wash at a high speed. Then all the sudden it makes a loud noise and then locks up, we immediately turn it off and get the operation manual out to check the trouble shooting guide. It gives us nothing, we are totally lost and praying it will start back up. My husband even checks our breaker box to make sure it did not trip the breaker. After about 20 minutes we finally got the machine to restart, it did finish the wash, but with very long pauses in between every cycle. I called Best Buy the next morning as soon as they opened and told them what had happened with my brand new washer. They were as shocked as I was, as Whirlpool is a very good brand and since it was brand new right from the wharehouse . They told me to come back to the store and they would arrange to pick up the washer and send me another one. I told them I did want to return the washer, but I thought I would purchase a different one, as I did not trust that model with all the things it was doing. So I picked another Whirlpool, one that said heavy duty on the machine and actually did more it sets the load and water lever its' self . I thought this feature was really cool since you can put in whatever size load and the machine weighs it and then adds the right amought of water. You cand choose to wash a comforter or an hand washable. But I had to wait another week to get this one and it cost more, but once again I told them I did not want to pay the price marked and only would up paying $30 dollars more. So finally the delivery day came and my new washer came, they picked up the defective Whirlpool washer and once again my husband hooks up the new washer, we level it and then test it and find that the pump hose leaks. So now I have purchased two brand new Whirlpool washing machines and both have come straight from the wharehouse with defective issues that should have been caught before Whirlpool ever shipped them out for retail sale. So once again I have to call Best Buy , but this time I told them all I wanted was the replacement hose and my husband could fix it , as I did not intend to wait another week. So we drove to the store and removed the hose from their display washer and then came back and put it on mine, then tested it out and hooray it worked and I could do my laundry. So you see they do not make them like they used to , My first one lasted 13 years, my second 11 years and the third didn't even make it to my house so I could use it before it went bad. But even though I have had trouble with these washers, I will still purchase and use Whirlpool brand appliances as I really do like them and usually do not have problems like this with them. I guess no matter what every now and then every one makes a lemon or two!
