Purchased new Whirlpool washer model #WTW5300VW May, 2009. I have owned many Whirlpool products including washers in the past and have nothing but good things to say. Except, this time. This new washer is a living nightmare. I had a repacement delivered one week after buying it due to it not being able to provide warm water. I had two choices for water temp, hot or cold. It is suppose to have (4) temp. settings. The new washer did no better. It has an "Automatic Temperature Control" feature that is worthless. I can still get only hot or cold. I have to manually stand over it while it fills half way with cold water, then turn the dial to hot for the remaining fill. I have called Lowes and Whirlpool customer service. Lowes knows nothing and didn't even know that it had an "ATC" control. Whirlpool says to more or less "live with it" but they will pass on my displeasure to future product developers. It also is the noisest I have every owned. We turn up the TV inorder to try and drown out the clunking of the agitator during the wash cycle comming from the laundry room 50' away. Also, the water lines clank and bang against the wall during fill up due to the atomatic water valve rapidly opening and closing.

I also purchased a Whirlpool washer. Actually, I bought the Kenmore but Kenmore and Maytag and Whirlpool all made by same company. After much research, etc, I found what appears to be a reasonable (?) answer to my problem with the water temperature. I can get cold water, almost hot water, but no warm or really hot. I was advised that the government regulates the temps on all top loading washers to save energy. The warm water can only be 70 degrees, which to me is not warm, but cool. Apparently for approx $50-70 you can purchase a replacement automatic temp control that will allow you to have warmer water. The Whirlpool part # i received was 8578335, but that may not be the correct one for your machine, so you should check. I haven't purchased one yet but am seriously considering it. Having to stand and manually fiddle with the temp control is really a pain. I have found that if I stop the water when it goes from warm to cold, when I restart it's warm again and also stop when hot quits running and switches to cold, then I get hot water again. The whole thing really makes me angry though! GRRRRRRRRR

stay away from whirlpool washers with automatic load sensor. The absolutely dumbest feature ever designed for a washer. The WTW57ESVWO washer doesn't thik your bright enough to select the size load you are washing. Thinks that most people will trow in another load of clothes in the middle of a wash cycle so it automatically will fill the machine to the top with water everytime you open and close the lid. So you have a medium load of white clothes and, as recommended, after 5 minutes of wash agitation, you open the lid to pour in the liguid bleach. Incidently, the bleach dispenser just pours the bleach directly into the wash. well, when you close the lid, the washer automatically fills the tub as if you added a super sized load to the wash. What a waste of water. If your frugal, which many of us are. You wind up only washing super sized loads of white clothes. Same applies to adding fabric softener. Very, very, very stupid design.
