Whirlpool Refrigerator- Top Freezer ET8AHKXR Review

Appliance Commentary:

Whirlpool Model ET8AHKXR is a good, basic refrigerator freezer that keeps a moderate amount of food and beverages cold and ready to use. This refrigerator/freezer is offered in a size that makes it an ideal choice for a single person or a small family of two or three.

This refrigerator freezer is simple, but it offers some good features for the price. First, the glass racks are easily removed and easy to clean. And moving them around is simple, too, because all you do is lift out the rack and place it on top of the supports on one of the other levels. There is no need to "hook" the rack in place- it just sits on top of the supports making it easy to move and unlikely to fall. I also like the fact that there are three drawers to keep certain food fresh and crisp. The wide rack on the door is nice also because it allows for the storage of wide containers, like gallons of milk.

In the freezer, this Whirlpool appliance doesn't offer as many useful features but it is still good enough to earn a passing grade. There are two storage rack levels in the main part of the freezer and two storage racks on the door. This is pretty standard for a freezer and I cannot think of anything good or bad to say about it. The ice maker is efficient, but again, it doesn't offer anything unique.

With the limited size, Whirlpool ET8AHKXR isn't intended for large families. This fact is most apparent in the freezer. It is very easy to overload the scant 4.1 cubic feet of space and I would surmise that, following a comprehensive visit to the grocery, many consumers are forced to turn off the ice maker and remove the ice receptacle in order to make room for frozen food. The refrigerator is more adequate for storage, but the size is still limited and isn't practical for a family of five or more individuals. Temperature control is very limited, too, and there is only a single knob that operates both freezer and refrigerator simultaneously. This is not good for those who have specific temperatures they like to maintain, but as long as you keep the setting in the upper- middle (around four) of the five- numbered positions, you should get food that is sufficiently refrigerated and sufficiently frozen.

Bottom Line:

Overall, Whirlpool Model ET8AHKXR is a good refrigerator/freezer for the price. You aren't going to get anything fancy for a price like this, so don't expect great things if you decide to purchase this appliance. However, you will get a good refrigerator freezer overall, with enough good qualities to make it worth considering for a small family or single person.
