Whirlpool Duet Washer/Dryer Review Summary

These Whirlpool Duet Washer/Dryer Machines are pricey but worth it, say our budget conscious reviewers. "The Duet uses 30 percent less water than the top-loaders and the savings was immediately apparent in our monthly bill," says one mom of three who values quality and savings. This stylish duet does the job well but, say many of our reviewers, cycles are extremely long. This family sized duet is quiet and efficient and worth every penny, say most reviewers. But be sure to check the warranty to be sure you're fully covered for defects. Looking for a washing machine or a clothes dryer? We have reviews of many of the latest models!

I never liked doing laundry until we purchased the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer.  I never liked having to dig way down in my old over-sized laundry tub to scrape the last sock up. — When I first purchased the Duet, the hubby had a cow.  "You spent $1,700 bucks on a washer and… read full review »

I purchased a Whirlpool Duet Washer which worked fine.  For 6 weeks.  That was 2 months ago.  For the last two months I have been waiting for 7 parts.  They now have 5, but the other two are still backordered, with no estimated arrival date.  Whirlpool is unconcerned. … read full review »

We purchased the Whirlpool Duet Sport Front Loading Washer in August 2007. The Model is WFW8300SW02, Serial HLU2935883. Rather than "Sport" this model should be named "The Jackhammer" as that more accurately describes the sound it makes. It is so loud that we can not hear the TV two rooms away! We can not run the washer in the evening as it wakes everyone sleeping upstairs! — We called Whirlpool and a repairman was dispatched. He checked to make sure the washer was level and checked the brand of soap I used. That's all he did. He commented that, yes, these washers are very noisy. He… read full review »

So my whirlpool super large capicity plus died and right after it filled to rise my large load of laundry. So I started researching the new front load washing machines. I wanted something big and this one is big 4.0cu.ft. big. And it has all the options my old one had and then some. I love the Delay Start option, I have used it a lot more than I ever thought I would and I have only had this item about two weeks now. It uses very little water, very little soap, and it is quiet. I don't even have to close the laundry room door thats how quiet it is. I love this and would consider it a very good… read full review »

I love the idea of getting my laundry done in half the time! You truely can do double loads and the clothes still come out clean! I am very happy with how easily I can strip beds and have them all put back together within a couple hours.  Plus with 3 kids it always seems that that hamper is overflowing! The machine is a bit noisy, expecially at final spin. (sounds like an airplane on take off :),,,,but overall, I am happy with this… read full review »

My Maytag washer quit on me after only 3 years and instead of repairing it I replaced it with a Whirlpool Duet front loader.  This washer is so stylish and looks European in design.  I love the fact that it uses much less water than the traditional top-loading washer.  The clothes splash around in there and it reminds me of the frontier woman beating her clothes on a rock at the river, except, of course, it is much easier on me!  You only need a small amount of detergent, in fact, if you add too much it creates too many suds and the cycle takes longer to… read full review »

I have been very disappointed with this washer.  As I stated above, it was $1000 for this machine and it died in the second year of service.  The warranty does not cover everything, and so I paid another $500 to repair the machine.  The cycles run extremely long- you can run two normal loads in the time that it takes to do one.  One cycle is actually 2 hours long!  It looks good on the floor, but my advice is to go with a different and cheaper… read full review »

— 1. Tub size is great- very big. But I found if you filled it to capacity, even hardly soiled clothes did not get clean and things twisted majorly. — 2. Great concept when designed to use little water, but does it leave your clothes clean or does it leave soap residue behind? Hmmm... maybe, maybe not! Didn't have one that was working properly to determine this. — 3. Detergent/Fabric Softener Dispenser units are hard to use but you can get used to them. — 4. Door is not reversible which is a problem for a lot of people. Go in wrong direction for the set up in most… read full review »

My husband & I purchased the Whirlpool Duet washer & dryer when we moved into our home last Spring. At first the entire family was entertained by just watching the wash in the machine. Now that the novelty has worn off, I'm still impressed. I absolutely LOVE the high capacity of these machines; it translates to time savings in that it allows me to do laundry much less frequently. It's also great to be able to wash large comforters at home instead of taking them to the laundry mat or dry cleaners. — — We opted to NOT buy the pedestals. Because of their high price, I wanted to try… read full review »

I bought my duet set about a year and a half ago.   In the third week of operation, one of the agitator blades on the side of the washer drum broke off!  I'm not rough on things.  In fact, I was putting in less than the recommended capacity of laundry.  The automated repair line for Whirlpool was awful.  It was going to take something like 3 weeks for someone to come out.  So, three weeks after spending $1,000 on a washer, I had to drag all my laundry to the laundromat!  Frustrated, I called Lowes, where I purchase the LEMON and they kindly took it… read full review »

I  bought this set when my 25 year old Hotpoint washer finally gave out.  It was a great machine, but had run it's course.  I found out that Hotpoints are not made like they used to be, so sad.  So I checked into front loaders because of all the hype about saving water and besides, they are cute and a bit retro with the round windows in the front.  I bought this set because Consumer Reports rated it #1.  — I love my set, only have a couple of disappointments.  I had heard that when I wash a load of jeans, that the legs would not get twisted… read full review »

Picked the duet set when we bought our new house.  Love the large tub!  I can wash a queen size comforter no problem at all.  I also like the "delay" switch on the washer.  I have an on/off peak electricity plan and can program the wash to start during "off peak" hours.  — My biggest tip is to make sure that you clean out the washer filter regularly.  There is nothing in the manual about this!  The filter is behind the kick plate of the washer in the front.  You have to remove the kick plate and open the filter (have towels and a bucket ready… read full review »

I just replaced a very old top loading Whirlpool set with the Whirlpool Duet Sport washer and dryer and so far, I am loving them. I have done 10-15 loads of laundry and I have noticed that my clothes smell so good. I am using the same brand detergent (the HE type now) and same softner, etc so it HAS to be the machines making them smell so clean. I have also noticed that a few items of clothing I thought were stained forever are no longer as well. — The dryer had a reversible door which would come in handy if you needed to arrange the washer dryer set differently or decided to stack… read full review »

The minute i saw these machines, i knew it was the set for me. My hubby purchased the Whirlpool Duet   washer and dryer a couple of months ago. The washer is wonderful, it use's — less water, and you can put in up to 16 pair of jeans at one time. By using less water and fewer loads, you will save on your water bill. — The dryer, holds an awesome amount of clothes, and it senses  the dampness of the clothes, — and them in digital readout puts up the amount of time it will take to dry your clothes. — This is a set i would highly recommend! —… read full review »

When we moved to our new house 7 years ago, we brought with us an ancient washer and dryer set.  When the washer kicked the bucket shortly thereafter, we bought our Duets - and could NOT be happier with them!  We've used them on the sanitary cycle for cloth diapers, but also have gently washed silks.  This washer and dryer can handle everything you throw at them, and… read full review »
