Whirlpool Duet - Washer Dryer Review

My first duet washer was finally replaced by Whirlpool after months of repairs and my flooded basement...about three years later I'm now experiencing F1/d1 failed cycles and having to restart the cycle or unplug the washer wait for several minutes and restart on a different wash cycle to complete the first.  The repair man came to fix it and told us it would cost $300+ for labor and parts and he couldn't guarantee 100% that this was the problem.  He said there were three different problems that could be wrong with the machine and in the long run it would probably be more cost effective to just buy a new one.  When the machine worked, it cleaned the clothes just fine, but in 5 years I've had one replaced within 6 months of purchasing it and now here we go again...after spending thousands of dollars on the washer and dryer (Duet)...it hurts financially to think I have to purchase a new machine.  It's past the warranty so that option is out.  I have three small children and not much time to spend waiting for repair folks, spending extra money on a product that cost so much to begin with (especially in this economy), and not to mention the clothes are piling up.

The company should be made to replace these faulty pieces of equipment.  I expected this machine to last at least 10+ years.  I got less than 5.  What a rip off.  The repair man says he sees them all the time, and he didn't even charge us for coming out on the service call.  The last time he came out the machine had been unplugged for several hours (almost 24) and when we plugged it back in it worked without a hitch.  He charged us the service fee then and left.  He didn't this time because he knew it was related to the same problem...the prior visit was about 8 months before this one.  Very disappointed.
