I bought this set because it looked cool, and I like gadgets--reminded me of StarWars with all the blinking lights!  That was as far as my love affair with the Duet went.  They say that the dryer runs in the same amount of time as the washer, so you can cycle through the loads in a hurry.  That just wasn't true.  It does hold a huge pile of laundry, but takes forever to dry it.  And that part of using little water meant for me that the clothes weren't clean.  After a while everything was dingy and gray.  And the cost of the HD detergent was awful.

I switched when I moved--left them with the house!  Now I have a top-loading Speed Queen set that I love.  No fancy buttons and gadgets, but I get clean clothes.  Gotta love it!

Wow, this is unbelievable. I've had my Duet 9200 washer and matching dryer for about 5 months now and I think their both great. Both my kids and wife all agree that the clothes come out as good or better than our old top load washer. I can wash much larger loads than I could with our old machine and the washer really is much gentler on our clothes. Case in point, all our black or dark color t-shirts are still as close to their original color after more than 6 washes. Never would happen with our old machines. No problem with white clothes either. As far as long wash cycles, I wash more laundry per load so all in all there is no difference in total time to complete laundry wash. I shop for the He soap at either Target or Costco and price difference from normal liquid detergent is insignificant. Think about it, both old and new machines will have dirty water after the wash cycle. No difference. the differnec ewill in your rinse cycle. Instead of sitting in 20 gallons of water to rinse which in itself will began to become dirty, our new machine cycles with several gallons to rinse and empty about three times. No dirty rinse water!

i agree with you.. I have the duet for 5 years now and can't wait for it to break. My whites look horrible. Sometimes if something is smelly when I put it in, it still smells when the cycle is done (along with everything that was washed with it).
I also bought it because I liked the way it looked and that you could stack them. If you think about it, you are washing your clothes in concentrated dirty water. The soak cycle is horrible. I would take an old fashioned water wasting washing machine any day over this piece of garbage. I give the washer no stars.or maybe one for its look..
