I will admit that I fell in love with the "look" of the Whirlpool Duet. I loved that we would use less water and still get "clean" clothes.
Right up front. Forget the clean clothes on a regular wash cycle! You MUST use heavy duty or extended wash times, which negate the small water usage. We have a normal family of 6 which includes a 7 year old boy that plays soccer and climbs trees regularly.
We bought the platinum color washer and dryer about a year and a half ago. Within 6 months I made my first service call because the electronic display indicated a problem code. Within a 12 month period I had to have service repairmen out on 5 different calls. I endure waiting weeks for parts that were not in stock. I finally called Whirlpool Corp. about 14 months into my ownership. There was "nothing they could do since my warranty only covered 1 year". They repaired the next 2 services free of charge. (Gee...thanks Whirlpool). Tonight,(10/24/09) I went to the laundry room only to find my first electronic display code signaling a problem with my washer this time.
I guess they got me this time. I paid just under 3000.00. I expected more from the Whirlpool brand that I had grown up with. I got the run around from the sales reps to the Whirlpool Corporate executives. Believe me, I tried to get answers from the highest ranks. They will keep you happy until the warranty runs out, then you are certainly on your own.
I will never buy a Whirlpool product again. I may have considered it, but the way the representatives of the company treated me and this particular machine failure has definitely turned me away.
On the upside, I can give it one star. It is definitely a good looking machine. However, I am a person who trys to be a good homecare provider and a good steward of our finances. This machine is not it advertises to be.
