My honest opinion is  this is a piece of junk. I have had mine for 3 yrs 5 month. It just started making a huge 'booming' noise when in the rinse/spin cycle , almost like it was 'off balance'. I spent $60 on an appliance man to listen to it and he said the bearing in the rear tub is going bad. This was estimated to cost me $800. I called Whirlpool to check on the warrenty since the machine is only 3 years old and to see if there were any recalls. I asked them if they had many complaints about the product. The customer service rep says from his reheared script, "Mame these are man made products and anything can happen." I learned the sh*tty warrentee would only cover the replacement of the tub in the event that 'it does not hold water and leaks'. I told the customer service rep.... great so if it floods my laundry room and I have to spend more time, money and inconvenience to clean up flood waters then I might get a replacement part if it is 'deemed defective'. I will NEVER buy Whirlpool again. I asked how many complaints the company has had on these products and get the again scripted response, "Whirlpool has the highest rating for quality in the industry." Ironic, today I was at a school function and described my displeasure (I'm going to tell anyone who will listen my bad experience with an expensive product that in my opinion is not worth the hefty price tag) and the two people on each side of me nodded their heads. One of the gals had a Duet and the other gal's brother had a Duet and the same issue happened to them in 1.5 years and 3 years after the 1 year warrentee expired. I hear LG is good. I will buy another brand of washer, maybe LG before I give Whirlpool a dime in replacement of the part or labor.   I have also noticed the smell that others complain about and have seen the black mold on the rubber seal by the door.  Is this American made?  If so, how sad  and it certainly doe not give me faith in our workmanship when I usually prefer American made products.
