We purchased the Whirlpool Duet Sport Front Loading Washer in August 2007. The Model is WFW8300SW02, Serial HLU2935883. Rather than "Sport" this model should be named "The Jackhammer" as that more accurately describes the sound it makes. It is so loud that we can not hear the TV two rooms away! We can not run the washer in the evening as it wakes everyone sleeping upstairs!

We called Whirlpool and a repairman was dispatched. He checked to make sure the washer was level and checked the brand of soap I used. That's all he did. He commented that, yes, these washers are very noisy. He suggested either using no soap (!?!) or waiting for a recall.

I've called and emailed Whirlpool. They said there is nothing they can do - that the washers are just very noisy. (That's the understatement of the century!!) They do not plan a recall. They said that sending another repairman to check the washer would not be covered by the warranty. (It's apparently not a one YEAR warranty, but only a one VISIT warranty.)

So, please consider this tremendous noise problem and if your laundry room is anywhere inside your house, don't buy this washer. Also, be aware that you can not rely on the Whirlpool warranty or service.

I wish I would have NEVER bought the Duet Sport washer. I had to have one replaced because it shook so bad the whole house rattle. They ended up replacing it and things were good for a few weeks then the bearing is going on the new one I just got as a replacement. I am finding it hard to get someone out to fix it even thought it is under warrenty. I guess they don't stand behind their products. It was defective right from the factory and I think I should have gotten another new one because of it.

You have to replace the inner tub assembly also. when the shaft rides on the worn bearings, it gets worn as well.

My washer got really loud and bouncy. When I took it apart, I found a set of worn and rusted bearings. I couldn't just replace the bearings because they're pressed into the rear outter tub. So, I had to buy the whole rear outter tub. Then, I realized the shaft on the backside of the inner tub was also worn due to the worn bearings. Guess what, you guessed it, I had to replace the whole inner tub as well. It cost me 500 dollars and some change to repair my washer. If I knew it would cost so much, I would have bought a new cheaper washer.

Make sure the dispenser door is closed all the way, as the water sprayes through the dispenser to dispense the detergent, bleach, and fabric softener.

The jet engine wirr at the end of the spin cycle is the dynamic braking of the motor. Not a defect, just the sound it makes. Not a bad noise, though.

the shipping bolts have nothing to do with the noise it is the barings in the back of the machines " there rusted" that is what makes all the noise they have send out four outer tubs to my home and all are rusted out. Whirlpool acts like nothing is wrong but I have talked to the repair people and they said mine is on of 6 they have seen like this.

I own one too and it does the same thing. I would nor recoomed this machine to any one the repair man told me not to get other one. To tell whirlpool I wanted something different. Now after owning my machine for less then 6 months I still cann't do laundry with it because for the leaking and noise.

YES I agree but I can stand the noise, although my issue is that I have had the washer and dryer for two months and it is already leaking. Instead of the water pouring into the basket with the clothes, it pours out the front of the washer where the dispenser is located...HUGH issue with water being on my basement floor rather than in the basket to wash my clothes. I have contacted the service center and they said a repairman would contact back within 24 hours...well, its been 36, which is very upsetting considering I spent $1500 dollars and have 3 children as we have at least a load a day. We also had to wait the weekend as the service center is not available 24/7, now we have a extremely large amount of clothes, sitting waiting to be washed!!! Expensive, yes...worth the price and wait for service, NO!!!

My washer is much quieter than my old top loader! If i close my laundry room door I can't even hear it in the next room! Has to be a defect with yours!

If you would remove the shipping bolts as mentioned in the owners manual the noise will go away.

interesting... I just bought this very same washer last week( April 2008) and it's very quiet- I wonder if you got a defective one. The loudest it gets is the last few minutes of the spin, which does sound like a plane landing when it slows down at the end, but not bothersome. The rest of the cycle is very quiet, and I had to open the doors to see if it was on! And mine is in the hallway behind louver doors, and is right behind my living room wall. Something is wrong with yours. But I still think I'll get the $99 warranty to be covered for 5 years, since it does not have but a one year warranty, which will not cover a lightning strike surge on the computer board, I am told...

using a washer without soap just sounds like a cop out on their part! How in the heck would soap make a washer noisy? that repair guy needs to get a job as a Walmart Greeter! ;) Ron
