I never liked doing laundry until we purchased the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer.  I never liked having to dig way down in my old over-sized laundry tub to scrape the last sock up.

When I first purchased the Duet, the hubby had a cow.  "You spent $1,700 bucks on a washer and dryer?" he exclaimed.

It was worth it.  We live in an area where the water bill leads to a big sigh each month that the bill is opened.  The Duet uses 30 percent less water than the top-loaders and the savings was immediately apparent in our monthly bill.  A few short months after grumbling about the purchase, the hubby turned into a fan of the Duet.

The controls are easy to use.  The detergent compartment can be difficult to add bleach to, as the bleach compartment is set back.  However, the entire compartment can be removed for quarterly cleaning--something I couldn't do with my old washer.

The wash time is deceiving though-- as it will show two minutes left in the spin cycle but continue to spin longer.

Recently, we remodeled our laundry room and stacked the dryer on top of the washer, using a bracket set that we purchased from Best Buy.

My in-laws and several other relatives have purchased the Duet and all them are happy with it.

In response to looser's comment from Dec 18, 2007 at 12:53PM:

I only use bleach if the kid's have gotten sick and then I add it to the towels. That's about the only time I'll use bleach. I avoid both bleach and fabric softener.

Good review. I just have one remark: the Duet actually USES only 30% of the water (70% less) than traditional, non-energy star rated top-loader.
I have never liked top-loaders because they waste so much water and energy (in terms of warm or hot water). If you use a front-loader correctly you'll also see an improvement in cleaning performance. Do you really find it necessary to use bleach? The hot cycles do a great job at keeping things white without it, don't you think?

They are very nice units if not overloaded and you must use the HE soap it is a low sudding soap. The reason the Spin cycle is taking longer is because it is adding time to try and pump out the suds. Any further questions just ask.

This set does look nice. I have never had a front loading washer. Since I am pretty short I would probably like it, but my husband would probably complain about the price too.

Did someone say VACATIONS? I just returned from a cruise where I didn't have to lift a finger all week. Here's to saving more money!

I like the idea of saving water. That means saving money, and saved money goes towards VACATIONS in my house! ;-)
