I purchased a Whirpool Duet Washer at a great price - a floor model - for $450. The appeal of the great price quickly gave way to regret, and now I'm planning to return it in exchange for a top loader.  The installers did a great job delivering and setting up the machine.  As soon as we washed clothes, however, we realized it was completely unusable.  It shook and banged and moved across the floor.  It was so loud and moved so much it looked like it would knock a hole in the wall.  We ran into the laundry room and braced ourselves against the machine to try to keep it still!  The noise scared the kids!  We called Whirpool and the service guy told us this type of machine should really only be installed on the ground floor of a home built on a slab. (!!!important to know!!!  We have a crawl space.)  He also said sales people "should really mention that to buyers."   However, I actually saw a Duet demo online promoting the fact this washer is great for upstairs laundry rooms and apartments.  Not at all!  I called Lowe's to explore my options for returning the washer and they sent out a Whirpool technician.  He was nice and did a great job tightening down the frame and it seemed to make a difference - while he was there.  As soon as we did a load of clothes the washer was up and banging around again.  I will return this machine for a top loader as soon as possible.  What a pain!

By the way, I think there are lawsuits underway regarding the mold and mildew issues some people are experiencing.  Google it.
