We originally looked at the Whirley-Pop because we were looking for a way to have popcorn without buying microwave popcorn--there were some stories on the news about people who worked in microwave popcorn factories who got sick from the fumes, and we figured that airpopped or stovetop popcorn would be healthier.
My one concern about the Whirley-Pop at first was that it would take too long compared to the microwave. Guess what, it doesn't. I don't even think it takes as long. One of us puts a tablespoon of oil and a half cup of popcorn into the Whirley-Pop and starts cranking, while the other melts some butter. By the time the butter is melted, the popcorn is practically done--and boy, is it good. There's almost no waste, too--only a few lonely unpopped kernels at the bottom of the bowl.
And have I mentioned how good it is? I would never go back to microwave popcorn, or even airpopped popcorn--the Whirley-Pop is that much better. We'll be getting one for our popcorn-loving niece and nephew this Christmas!
