Where the Wild Things Are Review Summary

Classic is the word used most to describe the children's book Where the Wild Things Are. An overwhelming amount of parents who are avid readers recommend Where the Wild Things Are, calling it "a must read for children of all ages." They believe this favorite children's story should be in every home. Less than a handful of reviewers gave Where the Wild Things Are less than five stars. The people who gave it low ratings recognized this as a classic children’s book and fun, but also felt the "wild things" could scare very young ones. Parents who are concerned about scaring the kids might want to look into another kids classic book, Goodnight Moon Board Book & Night Light.

"The Article" — ‘And now, Max cried, let the wild rumpus start!' These words have called out to the wild thing in all of us since 1963 when Maurice Sendak published ‘Where The Wild Things Are' a simple and beautifully illustrated children's book. — Max,… read full review »

This was a popular book with my son - but I did worry that it promoted bad behaviour in the guise of being a "wild thing". I do love the pictures and the overall message of love comes through in the end. This book tends to be more popular with boys than… read full review »

Where the Wild Things Are is a great story. It is amazingly illustrated in a way that will never go out of style. The message of the story leads to a teachable moment and can be enjoyed by readers of all ages. You won't mind reading this one with your child. Small kids who are sensitive may be bothered by the monsters, so if you are the parent of one you may want to preview it. As a classic it is available in many formats including story board, hardback and paperback and in every price range.… read full review »

My children and I have always loved this book. It was not scary for any of them but it was fascinating. The illustrations are fabulous and the story is just right. Can not wait to read it to grandchildren! Get it for yourself and give one to every child you know. — —… read full review »

This book has been a classic in my opinion. I can still remember being a little girl sitting in the school library for story time and this is the book they read us. I don't know which was better the story or the story teller, but I can remember being so intrigued and excited about this book!  This was one of my favorite children's' book when I was growing up. This book fascinated me when I was a kid.  Where the Wild Things Are is a great story. This book fascinated me when I was a kid. I didn't understand it then, but loved it. When I first read it to my children, I worried they'd be a bit scared, but they loved it and seemed to understand it. We all have those days when we cross over to the wild side, and look forward to home and comfort when we return. It's natural to be wild for a while but most don't really want to live there. The pictures are just wonderful, and my kids like to narrate when there's no text. Our family highly recommends the other Maurice Sendak books. Don't stick with just this… read full review »

I discoverd this book many years ago while taking a children's literature class. It was one that was highly recommended and one that I added to my collection of children's books. I read it to my daughter when she was little and she now has the book and has read it to her three children. They all love it, and prance about growing through the house. — The drawings are vivid and fun. Children will enjoy Max and be able to relate to him about bedtime. The book was awared the Caldacot medal which is a good recommendation for a children's book. —… read full review »

I love this book. The illustrations are beautiful, very detailed. — This was my favorite book when I was younger, and I can still appreciate it as an adult. Reading it just pulls you into another world. I was never much of a reader as a child, but I carried this book with me everywhere. — This will be the first book I buy when I have my first child. If for some reason they don't enjoy it, I'll be happy to have it on my bookshelf instead :) — One to add to the collection.… read full review »

I have read this book many times. I even passed it on to my son when he was little to help encourage his love of reading. He now has an imagination that surpasses most known boundaries and he loves to read fantasies. I believe this book should be readily available to all new parents to help refresh their memories or read it for the first time and to give them a definite bedtime story to read. I enjoyed this story and loved the characters. Let's pass it on to the next… read full review »

I was given this book as a child. I am now almost 50 years old and still enjoy this book very much. I kept this book and passed it on to my son when he was of reading age. He loved the book just as much as I did. In fact someone turned it into a play and I was able to take my son (when he was much younger) to see this fabulous book turned into a stage play. — — —… read full review »

This is one of the first books I bought for my boys.  They loved it before they could read and now they read it on their own many times a week.  They love to act out the "wild rumpus", that can be a little trying at times but it is funny also.  They will remember this book forever and I'm sure it will be a favorite of their children some day… read full review »

This was one of my favorite childrens' book when I was growing up.  We are having our first baby in Janurary and we had to go get a copy of it for the baby.  I am sure we will enjoy reading it to our "little monster" for years to come.  I think it has a great story, excellent pictures, and teaches the kids an important lesson along the… read full review »
