Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series is similar to the world Tolkien brought in Lord of the Rings but with a lot more detail and much longer.  If you enjoy fantasy style writing, you will love this series.  The story takes place in a time before vehicles or technology, but in a different world where some of the population have abilities and powers that can be developed.  This power of course is used for good with some, but bad for others.  The book refers to many ages where history repeats itself (as the wheel turns) but nothing is really predetermined in the present.  It's the classic...

What a great way to relax & let your mind roam thru another world and time!

Robert Jordan did a fantastic job in fleshing out his characters. Nothing is black and white in the Wheel of Time series. The good guys aren't necessarily the good guys, & the bad guys, well ...  they really are bad! This is not quite like a Tolkien book, as I think it's better than Tolkien.

I've only read the first three books in this series and can't wait to get the rest of the books in this series!

Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series is probably the greatest (and longest) series I've ever read. Now don't let the length scare you away, the first few books are much shorter than the longer ones. Regardless, these books have everything a best-seller needs:
  • interesting, well-developed, and original characters
  • an intriguing plot
  • an amazing new world with very-detailed cultures and history
  • beautiful language
  • a great, well-defined magic system
  • and a genius author!
Now Mr. Jordan recently passed away, but his wife Harriet chose Brandon Sanderson to finish the series, and I believe he will do the best...

I absolutely love this series! I do not find it too long, but then again I love all the details and the depth that RJ put into it. I consider those details and the extensiveness to be what makes the series so great and utterly unique. Although it is sad that he died before the last book was published, before his death he literally had teams of people there writing down what he shared with them about the final book. There is also his wife who he shared details of the book with. I look forward to the release of the final book. If you love science fiction, are a fan of Tolkien, and don't mind an extensive...

From the beginning this series pulls you in...I have spent several nights/early mornings putting off sleep because I could not put these books down...an absolutely wonderful world has been created...a few of the books did drag a bit, but I wouldn't have missed a word for anything...

The Wheel of Time series is a world that you can get lost in, and not in a bad way.  Robert Jordan is an expert in fleshing out his characters and defining his world in a masterful way.

The story is about the main character's Rand, Matt and Perrin and their journey as they leave their hometown behind and set off to grow individually and also always knowing that in the end they will need each other to survive.  The story follows as they each become masters of themselves and their skills and the forces they must face to stop true evil from enveloping the world.

The characters...

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time Series is amazing. The characters develop swiftly and though each books plot progresses swiftly, he keeps the reader engulfed in descriptions. There is no doubting what is going on around Rand Al'Thor. I am a particular fan of the sixth book in the Series (being The Lord of Chaos) for its dramatic battle scenes and the vivid descriptions of the entirety of the world. Each new page holds the attention and demands the following of the next. Robert Jordan has created a masterpiece that is prized by many and I am definitely one. The story is however very very descriptive...

I'm currently reading the series for the second time.  Though Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series is found in the SciFi/Fantasy section of most bookstores, the novels include some of everything, from adventure to fantasy to romance.  Jordan writes so that you see what the characters see, though when it gets gory, he gives bare details, though they are still a bit much for those with weak stomachs.  There are times that the series runs slow, the rest makes up for it in full; there are battles, plots, death, birth, insanity, and mystery.  Personally, I am not a fan of any book that focuses any...

This Wheel of time by Robert Jordan has 12 volumes. All volumes are just so exciting that I wanted to read one after the other. It's more of a fantasy novel. It's very imaginative. I felt like I was actually seeing what was happening. It's very details in description which allowed me to visualize the scene, the environment, the occurrences, the characters and most especially the emotions. After reading these books I felt like there would be no other book that would interest me and catch my attention. Up to this day, I haven't read anything else. Robert Jordan was a genius. He wrote everything... review »

My sons ages 14 and 11 and I are reading this series.  The books are written so that we are all glued to the story and sad when a chapter ends as we have to wait another day for the next.  Jorden outdoes himself with this series and while the setting is Fantasy there are real life situations that this can be used to help have serious conversations with my children, "what would you do if this happened to you?"  "How can you change this situation to pertain to life today?"  As others have written reminescent of Tolken but stands entirely alone.

Robert Jordan's journey into fantasy writing is best shown in the Wheel of Time. The first books in the series quickly set the plot into motion, ever twisting throughout it. The series develops a wonderfully created world, with the major negative of the series being the ultimate wordiness. Books 7-9 (approxomately) stand still, not adding much to the story in the long run. Finally, with Jordan having died before writing the final volume, it remains to be seen if anyone can carry on his legacy.

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series is a great read, if you're willing to invest the time. There are few series as long as this one (it's not even complete yet!). His character list is well over a hundred, and his descriptions are fantastically detailed; both of these help each book be 600+ pages long. I enjoyed the series thoroughly, even if it did take a while to get through. Be prepared for a time commitment from the Wheel of Time.

The first couple books in the weel of time series fly by, however as the series moves on, Robert Jordan tries to interweave too many storylines and loses momentum in the plot. The final book has yet to be published due to the untimely death of Mr. Jordan.

Great series.  I haven't been able to put these books down.  However, after book ten, things seem to slow down and get a bit strained.  I really enjoyed the characters and the world is very engrossing.  A very long read though.
