Wheel of Time —
Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series is probably the greatest (and longest) series I've ever read. Now don't let the length scare you away, the first few books are much shorter than the longer ones. Regardless, these books have everything a best-seller needs:
interesting, well-developed, and original characters
an intriguing plot
an amazing new world with very-detailed cultures and history
beautiful language
a great, well-defined magic system
and a genius author!
Now Mr. Jordan recently passed away, but his wife Harriet chose Brandon Sanderson to finish the series, and I believe he will do the best job anyone, besides Mr. Jordan himself, could do.
On to the books themselves. The first book, The Eye of the World, is familiar in part to Lord of the Rings. They share that same sense of wonder, the type that makes readers thirst for more. The characters themselves literally come in all shapes and sizes. We are not limited to farmhands or kings, we meet people who come from all over the land from a variety of ethnicities and experiences. The way they interact is so amazingly real yet simply magical.
The series becomes more complex, but they get better as they go along and our characters grow and develop. You become so attached to them, and this series has a horde of devoted followers for that reason.
These books are the perfect for relaxing after a stressful day or for a fun read! You will not be able to put them down; trust me, you're going to care what happens next!
