My family and I have had our fair share of nasty colds this winter. Nothing makes us more miserable than having a sore nose from blowing it too much on top of all of our other symptoms. After some trials, errors and research, I think I have come up with the top three tissues to purchase when you want to prevent or have a red, sore nose.

  1. Puffs Plus with Vicks Approx $2.49

I absolutely love these tissues. When my children and I are really congested, these are the tissues I buy. This tissue helps clear nasal passages and helps us breathe a little easier. The tissue only has the scent of Vicks and is not actually medicated but it really does help. As far as softness goes, this tissue contains lotion, Vitamin E, aloe and chamomile. The only issue I do have with these tissues is that if you wipe your eyes with one, it may burn and be irritating. 2. Kleenex Anti-Viral Approx. $2.69

These tissues are great to have in my household when one of us just starts having a runny nose. The tissues are soft and gentle and also help kill off the virus that causes the cold in the first place. Kleenex claims that these can possibly help reduce the time of your cold if you already have one. The manufacturer states that "KLEENEX Anti-Viral tissue kills 99% of cold and flu viruses. A specially treated middle layer helps stop cold and flu viruses in the tissue." Definitely a product that anyone should have in several rooms in the house.

3. Kleenex Ultra Soft Approx. $2.59

This tissue doesn't have all the fancy stuff like the other two but it does have lotion with aloe and Vitamin E in it, which is helpful for soothing a sore nose. They also have three layers with an absorbent middle layer that keeps hands cleaner and drier. I like that these are unscented because I have allergies to many perfumes and don't need to be taking any chances of being any more congested.

Ok, if read my response below, you will appreciate what I'm about to say. I had to run out to get those tissues and on my way out the grocery clerk even exclaimed how red my nose is!! So I purchased the Puffs Vicks and Puffs Ultra. First use of the vicks was like heaven for my nose! They really are so much softer than anti-viral..... they are like sandpaper in comparison. It's almost as if Kleenex took their cheapest tissue and put blue ink dots all over it. Plus, they are much more absorbent and do not break like Kleenex. The Puffs ultra seem nice, too, but the lotion and the vicks in the other tissue are extremely soothing to me right now. I think I found my permanent brand of tissues! tx!

I think I will try the vicks or the ultra soft.... though, I have to say I am unimpressed with the Kleenex Anti-viral. I have been using those tissues for about a year now, with no problems. Until now that I'm sick.... I had the flu in january, then ever since then have not been able to kick it fully. I am now back to being ill again, so I'm using these tissues constantly. Unfortunately, they have not stopped any flu virus and they are chaffing my top lip and nose. They were good for use whenever I casually needed to use it, but not while trying to kick a cold. I don't know how it kills any virus since I've gone through 4 boxes since january (now mar 25) and moving to my 5th box (which will not be these).

My family and I have been addicted to the Vick's tissues for a couple months now, ever since we used a coupon at WalMart Supercenter for a box. Just to let you know, at the Atchison, Kansas WalMart Supercenter, both the cube and regular size boxes are only $1.89 each! If you're going for quantity and don't care about the shape of the box, get the rectangular one. It has about 25 more tissues than the square box....for the SAME PRICE!!!

I didn't know that they had tissues with Vicks in them...good to know...so far our zink is working this winter season (knocking on wood), We do keep the anti viral around and I buy some for work...Have to hide them on the weekend though or I will be empty on Monday.

the ones with vicks are excellent, but I do have to keep them out of reach of children or the whole house smells like vicks.

Great topic. My hubby just walked in with the Kleenex anti-viral. I am glad to know you recommend them.

That is a good list to have. Now I know Puffs with Vicks are the ones to look for first. I get allergies sometimes and need to know these things. Thanks!

Anything is better than blowing your nose and blowing THROUGH the tissue. It happens with the cheap ones. That's so nasty. I hate the sore, red nose I get when I have a cold. I have used the last ones but never even heard of the first two. Will check them out but I hope I don't get a cold any time soon.
