Western Michigan University Review Summary

Finding the right university can take time and research, and one university that has much to offer but doesn’t usually enter the radar screen of most students is Western Michigan University, located in Kalamazoo. Western Michigan University is noted for its great academic programs and beautiful campus, as well as offering a solid education for a reasonable price. On the other hand, winters in this part of the country are very cold and the city of Kalamazoo is not that large, so finding things to do can present a challenge. Still, Western Michigan University is a “Well Rounded School for Your Undergrad and Grad Needs” and it ranks as a highly rated College or University in the United States.

Western Michigan University has been great to me. While being a division 1 school, the football team has grown by leaps and bounds this year and has had a hand in the deal the MAC signed with ESPN for coverage of 25 games next year (2009). Westerns campus is great too. It's not amazingly big but its not a tiny campus either. Everything you need is within walking distance, or one bus ride away. Buses, rec passes, all sporting events and healthcare (with exceptions) are all offered for free here. The schools tuition prices have been lowered in the past couple of years while schools like Michigan... review »

In my four years at WMU I've found it to be a great institution. Its affordable (comparably at least) and you get a solid education. Often times people refer to Western as a party school and nothing else but It truly does have many exceptional academic programs. It is one of very few schools to have a completely accredited College of Fine arts and has many research grants and programs. Western is also considered one of the premier education major schools, putting out many teaches each year. I recommend that you consider WMU and at least give the beautiful campus a tour.

I am an undergraduate student in the College of Fine Arts, the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and the Lee Honors College. My experience with WMU has been great in all of the colleges and my extracurricular activities (Bronco Marching Band and affiliated programs). I really enjoy my time at WMU and would recommend the school to anyone looking into colleges. I would advise against it, however, if you really hate winter and snow, but it really is tolerable weather for the most part. :)

Western was a great experience for me.  I got to know many of my professors and I felt like they cared about my success.  I enjoyed the layout of the campus and believe that it provided me with the right life experiences to be successful in my career.  I did hate the parking situation though.  Too many cars and not enough spaces.  Hopefully that has improved in the last few years.

Western Michigan university has a strong Behvaioral Psychology program which I am pursuing. The university is medium in size and located in the small town of Kalamazoo.  There is not a lot to do here and the winters are brutal, but I give WMU a C+ overall.

The college offered the basics in academics. The staff was not very friendly overall and the advising staff did not go the extra mile to help you as a student. Other colleges I've been to go way beyond to help you.
