Western Digital WDXMS1200 Passport Portable Hard Drive —

I bought mine after I started to run out of hard drive space on my small 60 gig internal drive on my Mac Book (too many music files!) My friend uses one for transporting files back and forth between his work computer and his laptop at home, as he is a graphic designer and needs gigs upon gigs of storage for his projects everyday. I bought the 160 gig red version, which not only looks very nice sitting next to my Mac, but is incredibly portable.

The transfer rates are not lightning fast, but fast enough to put gigs of media files on it in minutes. The USB cable is only about 6 or 7 inches long, but since it is a portable drive, it is great to not have the clutter of a long wire. It is plug and play, so simply open the box, plug it into your computer and start loading files onto it in seconds. Partition it for different computers (Mac/PC) or purposes (backup/media, document storage) which is incredibly useful and easy to do with a breif instruction via the included users guide on the hard drive.

Some come with a neoprene case that will protect is from minor falls, but my friend can attest to the fact that it will not survive anything over a 3 foot drop. He broke his two weeks ago, called Western Digital, they gave him an RMA number, he returned it and recieved his brand new drive in 2 day shipping. You can't beat that customer service. Be sure to fill out the warranty service card, or online, as soon as you open it!
