We have 1 desktop and 3 laptops in our home cataloguing years of work and memories. Our 500 MB external HD was no longer up to the task of backing up that many computers plus all the pictures and videos take up a LOT of space. We got the western digital hd at SAMs for a good deal. Installation was problematic on my desktop for some reason. It did work on my one laptop, so I've had to transfer everything from the other 2 laptops and the desk top to my old external HD, plug it and the WD into my new laptop and transfer to the WD that way. Not exactly an easy or simple solution. Pros: size, ability to turn power off Cons: installation (plug and play is preferrable), not easy to use My conclusion is this HD serves it's purpose but is not one that I'm likely to buy again.

Got this on sale during the Black Friday event, and it's well worth the money. It's extremely quiet, efficient, and a really solid buy considering the price and the space. The hard drive rarely becomes hot and does not make any spinning or humming noise heard from maxtor or seagate brands. I can stream video on it without any problems at all. This external hard drive has a Western Digital Cavier Green Hard Drive it in. So it stays relatively cool and uses low power but at the expense of speed. The speed is not very slow but not as fast as a Samsung Spinpoint or Caiver Black but those run at extremely higher temperatures and will result in loud noises. Also recognized flawlessly by Win XP and Win 7. Preformatted for Windows - I'm on a Mac and I reformatted it in about 15 seconds. Actual available capacity is exactly 1.5TB. Speed - Transfers a GB in about 35 seconds. I haven't been spoiled by harddrive speeds so this is perfectly acceptable to me. Physical size - It's smaller than I expected. But that's a good thing. Noise level - This drive is nearly silent. Absolutely no sounds from this one.

I was in the market for a very small and portable hard drive yet have enough storage for my photos, videos, and documents. I also travel alot due to family living far and business so I found this little device and it has sserved me so well. It is extremely portable!!! It is not heavy at all and it only needs one usb cable to power it up. I don't need to carry a power supply the size of a brick with me anywhere i go. The storage space is also 1TB so it can last me for a very long time. So far western digital has not let me down. The hard drive is still going strong after a month and the device does not make any sound or noise and does not heat up at all!! I have bought seagate hard drives and they always fail on me after a year so no more! I have decided to go with samsung or western digital hard drives as I have experienced these two are the fastest hard drives out there. Samsung hard drives seem to go faster but do produce a humming noise as you put it under heavy load.

I am a computer novice and it seems like every time i try to fix my computer it always ends of not working at all but with this hard drive it is very easy to use it comes with minimal cables just plug in and it works. It is very convenient to use because of it small size and if i wanna show people stuff i can just bring it with me. It also doesn't have a power adapter because it uses USB cable power. I use this as a backup for my music, pictures and movies and important documents. Its has over a TB of hard drive space which is more then you will ever need to use and then some. Another good thing about this hard drive is the fact that it doesn't come with bloated software that most hard drives come with it has pretty much none which is a great feature in my opinion. I only just recently got it so i can comment on the durability but from reading online it seems to be that its not an issue at all.**

I am using the Western Digital SE 1 TB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive to store very large files. It does however have limitations. It can't accept any file that is bigger than 4 GBytes. I purchased it mainly for temporary storage of extremely large files with my desktop computer and laptop computers, and I am extremely satisfied with it. When it comes to storing data, it is very fast and all your files are kept nice and safe. The drive works well with Windows 7 and I have had no issues whatsoever. The device itself is super light weight & small - making it easy to carry with you everywhere you go. I've never had a problem with the connector and Western Digital has great customer service. This is an excellent 1TB hard drive that will give you what you want: lots of external and portable data storage. The drive is very quiet (I can't hear it at all, actually) and it serves my needs as a place to dump files I don't need regularly.

There is always the debate over which one is better: Seagate or Western Digital. I've used seagate hard drive before and they always fail on me. Seagate isn't what they use to be anymore. I bought this for a backup drive for my work PC with 1TB HD. It works perfectly, runs silently, and the price is excellent. Since this is a portable 1TB Hard drive the RPM on this thing is only up to 5400. They have yet to develop a 1TB portable hard drive spinning at 7200RPM. I didn't see any problem with this device, I dumped all my previous video's and working perfectly. It's quiet, doesn't release too much heat like other HDD's & it's really simple to use it. The size is very ultra portable to carry around especially if you travel alot. I recommend using it for backups. I would not recommend performing any other drive operations while concurrently watching a video/movie stored on the drive, it may stutter, as this drive is not designed for high performance. So far, I've been happier with this WD drive than I have been with two Seagate Expansion drives I own, had nothing but problems with the Seagates, which is why I opted for a different brand this time around.

After I bought the Western Digital hard drive, I know this will be of use. With so much space I was dealing with in the past, I used to be using ALOT of CDs and DVD to store them until now, especially when it comes to Music and Videos. Plus this hard drive doesn't require so much space to put somewhere in a room or a house and what's best is you can take it almost anywhere with you with ease, thanks to the lack of weight it carries. I say this is much more reliable than other things I see. And it's worth every cent of it.

Western Digital is the best brand in external hard drives and I truly love mine. It's fast, portable and will hopefully last forever. I previously purchased an external hard drive which turned out to be incompatible with my mac computer but the **Western Digital SE 1 TB USB 2.0 Portable External Hard Drive WDBABV0010BBK-NESN **works perfectly with my mac. All my files transfer quickly and with no issues. I love how small and compact it is (3"x 4.38" x 0.75") making it easy to carry around with me everywhere. It makes no noise at all and is USB powered. Weighing only 12 ounces it's amazing that 1 TB of information can fit into this tiny drive! I read that all WD drives, even their most basic products, are designed to protect your data and put through a comprehensive battery but have yet to test this out. I would recommend this drive to anyone looking for a lightweight and easy way to carry around massive amount of files. A++++
