Wells Fargo Home Mortgage —
My husband and I wanted to refinance our home and take some of our equity out. We applied to Wells Fargo and they checked our credit and told us we were approved, and at what rate. We decided to go ahead with the loan, and 2 days before closing they switched us to another department and told us our rate was going to be 3/4 of a point higher! We had not used any credit since we applied. When we told them that we were cancelling our application, and going with a different company who offered us the same initial rate, we found out the next time we checked our credit online, that they had proceeded to hit our credit reports 3 more times after that date. We maintained a checking account with them for a while after that, but we have a very bitter taste in our mouths, and have heard similar stories from others since. Our general opinion of Wells Fargo is that they are so big, they just don't care!
