To the Point

Well I'm back on Weight Watchers and for me buying the frozen meals is so easy I do it in spite of knowing how unhealthy the food is!

A Closer View

The Dragon Shrimp Lo Mein is in the Smart Ones Bistro Selection line. The meals were on sale in the supermarket for $2.50 so I stocked up but the Bistro selections were the regular price of just under $3.00 in my area. Dragon Shrimp has 5 points; 240 calories and 4 grams of fat. Its 9.25 ounces with 5 grams of sugar and a ridiculous amount of salt- 690 mg! It has 14 grams of protein and 36 grams of carbohydrates. This can be cooked in the microwave or oven. As long as I'm eating so unhealthfully I microwave these meals.

The Taste and Value

Dragon Shrimp was surprisingly spicy. You really can't go by the little blurb on the package that says "Tender shrimp in a mild soy-garlic sauce paired with Asian noodles tossed with sugar snap peas and carrots." Let's really look at this dish.

It tasted good over all if you like spicy. The shrimp were small, baby shrimp but they didn't taste fishy. There were about 8 of them. There were a few as in 3 very small slivers of carrots; a couple of tasty chestnuts and ½ of a pea pod.

There was a decent looking portion of decent tasting lo mein but when all was said and done it wasn't filling. I think for 5 points I'll choose something else. I won't buy this one again.

Jo's Viewpoint

Mediocre

Me too! and I could eat them all day and skip the rest...sigh..Jo

After reading your review, I think I'll skip this one. The spinach lasagna is pretty decent, as frozen meals go. I'm finding the Weight Watchers'/Smart Ones dessert products are way better than their entrees.

Mark I SO agree with you. I'm a health food fanatic but I'm just finding that right now I need something really structures. My mom was here for a month (no excuses but)...and I really overate. I juice veggies; I don't eat raw meat; I eat organically - eating WW kind of makes me sick at the thought but it's just for a short period. Jo who just might skip this after this week!

I've never seen the point of dieting with frozen foods. To me, the fresh fruits and vegetables section is the part of the grocery store that will REALLY help you shed the pounds.

There are a couple of different ways WW now works points or you can do it without points but I get 20 points a day and then 35 extra a week so 5 points adds up quickly if you're still hungry! Jo

I don't kow what the points are - I am assuming they are something to do with the program. But I do like the name Dragon shrimp and that alone would draw me in :-)

Hi Jo, I talked to a few of my Dad's nurses and they say that the "Smart Ones" are the best for you in the frozen food meals...lowest in salt and a big selection...I haven't seen this one yet, but I will heed your advice...I love their desserts...only 2-3 points...I got a look when I asked if I could just eat a bunch of thouse instead :)
