I was poking around the forums and clicked on this catagory and saw that nothing had been posted about it. Sooo Has anyone participated in a weight loss program or taken anything that has actually worked. I've tried different things in the past but nothing has ever worked. The one thing that actually helped me lose 38 lbs last summer was walking daily and my Wii Fit which I spent hours at a time on. This year I'm just lazy and don't feel like getting off the couch...lol.

For me, the only diet regimen that works is Atkin's/South Beach Diet.  By controlling my carbs (not eliminating them) I find I can lose weight without much effort.  I've recently lost 22 lbs following this course and exercising moderately.

Now, if you're fixed to the couch, short of sewing your lips shut nothing's going to work.

Sure for a short time - WW and Atkins. The best weight I ever lost and the best I have ever felt was when doing an elimination diet. Most of our food was rice or grain based and just salmon pretty much for meat. I had a lot of almond butter - really clean healthy food. I lost a lot of weight and felt great but unless my husband eats like that (since he's the cook) I don't.

Weight Watchers works for me!  So far I've kept off the weight, have learned to eat well, and cook healthy for me and my family.  Cutting back on dining out really helps.  I love to cook so the meals I make have no hidden fats, salts, etc.  If I'm eating well my family is eating well.  That makes me happy and happy folks tend not to stress eat. Hope this helps!

The best combination that worked for me was eating things like Lean Cuisine for lunch then having small snack-like meals the rest of the day.  I'd have cereal for breakfast, a Lean Cuisine and yogurt for lunch, then a few olives, cheese cubes, some cucumber slices, and a V8 for dinner.  I exercised 4 days a week, just by walking for about 30-45 minutes.  Then we moved and I got out of the habit and put it all back on!  Eating out is really what kills me...portion sizes are ridiculous and I can't control what goes in the food.

Before I started working out [again], I stopped eating meat and dairy.  I had to loose weight before starting a fitness regimen, you know, to make sure I was truly ready to commit to changing my lifestyle.  Although turning to veganism was easy once I read the book Skinny Bitch.  This taught me to like vegetables and crave healthy, organic products.

After a few years, I'm back to eating meat and dairy.  I enjoyed my vegan lifestyle, but it's expensive and hard to come by in my neck of the woods. However, one year of groceries was worth it.  I needed a healthy start in changing my evil, eating ways.  Now, I'm 70 pounds lighter and maintain the weight loss by working out and counting calories.

Whatever you want your weight to be, say 130 lbs, multiply that number by 10. In order to maintain a weight of 130 pounds, you shouldn't eat more than 1300 calories per day.

I hope you find something that works for you!

I did Weight Watchers when it was the old system that you counted your fruits, vegs, breads, milk, protein and water and that worked for me. I hate the points system they have now. I also lost about 100 lbs after having my daughter by walking and cutting down my porition size. I am currently on a version of the Mediterranean diet. I am very careful about what carbs I eat and use fats, but they must be olive oil based. I have found I can control my weight by combining what I learned in Weight Watchers with a lot of self-control.

They all work for me.  The problem I have is sticking with anything for any length of time.

The best thing for be has been running and calorie counting. It can be tedious, but the it's been a learning experience. There is a lot of food I'd eat, particularly fast food and not even realize how many calories I was eating. Not the mention all the sodium and trans-fat.

I think what WcMom13 said about self control is key. :)

Oh Im the same way I will get on a health kick and do it for about a week and then on the weekend its....lets eat here....lets get that...Ooooooo McDonalds!!! lol So my big problem is just sticking with something. I have the exercise machines, bike, treadmill and the thighmaster and yoga ball lol I eat and eat and eat and eat its my favorite thing to do and I just yo yo back and forth between 160 and 170. I was way over 200 lbs at the beginning of 09 and now I feel great, I still eat a lot but with the exercise and running around I stay in the same weight region and never lose anything. I just wish I could drop atleast 20 more pounds...maybe someday lol. I will have to try weight watchers, Ive been hearing only great things about it.

The best diet for weight loss I've ever lived with wasn't really a diet. It was more of an understanding of what was in my food; a culmination of one year of dedicated research in my high school years. I was obsessed with nutrition at this point, and I used to binge eat, and my diet choices were inconsistent. I normally ate as healthy as I could, but occasionally was tempted by snacks other family members of the household purchased.

I eventually transitioned into Raw Foods. I am not staying at 100% raw, simply because I feel great everyday. I am no longer on the diet for weight loss, but instead muscle/strength gains. But with consistent exercise and staying on this regimen of green fruit and vegetable smoothies, green smoothies with fats, and fruit as a snack, or nuts/fats as a snack (fruits and fats are best eaten alone or separately, fruits first fats last), getting to very low body fat, and simply being CLEAN, without toxins in the body is easy. Detox pills aren't necessary. Most people simply feel so good they can't stop. Some people keep having cravings, but they just don't have the understanding I do; I simply don't want to eat foods that are cooked so that nutrients are dead, proteins are cross linked, AGEs are created, and digestion will be impaired, and I won't feel much energy. There is a natural high from eating greens, fruits, nuts, sees, seaweeds, and fermented foods as part of a Raw style that is just enlightening.

There is much information on surviving on a Raw Food lifestyle out there. I recommend the book Spiritual Nutrition by Gabriel Cousens, and High Raw by Kevin Gianni.
