In order to maintain a healthy weight and to lose weight, it is all about balance in your life. When maintaining, the energy intake in the form of calories should be about equivalent to the amount of energy out in terms of the number of calories burned throughout the day.
Now in terms of food, it's not just about the calorie numbers, you need to make sure your body is getting the right energy from nutrient dense foods and fibrous sources such as a variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains while leaving out the junk and sugary items.
To keep your muscles, bones, and heart healthy, one needs at least 30 mins of moderate to intense physical exercise about 6 days out of the week. Even better when this exercise is in the form of cardio exercise and strength training (with weights/resistance).
For those wanting to lose weight, it's necessary to do all of the above while making sure you increase the amount of exercise to an hour per day and limit the number of calories per day (but still getting all of the nutrients necessary)
