Gwen Shamblins Weigh Down Diet I've never been heavy but always have had trouble staying at a healthy weight.  I tried every diet you can think of and slowly pounds come back on.  About 12 years ago a friend of my started Gwen Shamblins Weigh Down Workshop.  I was skeptical because other diets had failed me, and I had failed them.  From infancy I was never properly fed nor taught when and when not to eat.  I ate what ever was given to me by my mother and she fed me when she wanted to even if my first meal wasn't until 1:00pm in the afternoon as a young child who can't make their own choices or food you are stuck and you take what you can get when you get it. Do to this I had never knew what my hunger signs were and developed bad eating habits.

The plan is very simple.  Eat when you are hungry, stop when you feel satisfaction, be obedient to the internal hunger signs that God has given you, eat what you want as long as you are hungry for the food.  You need to be disciplined in this like any other program.  Whether it be via video class, online, or with this book (I read the book and went to a video class).  You will be taught spiritually, mentally, emotionally, & physically what to do.  Most of the classes are free at most churches you may need to pay a small fee for extra materials if you choose to purchase personal audio/dvd ect.  The book is resonalbly priced.  The website is VERY helpful.  12 years later am still where I desire to be spiritually, mentally, emotionally, & physically.

The website is: http://www.weighdown.com/AboutUs/TheWeighDownApproach/tabid/133/Default.aspx

Here is an excerpt from the website below explaining a little about the diet.

 The Weigh Down Approach

What does God have to do with this anyway?

With God's help you can learn to stop in the middle of a meal and have no desire to eat the second half if your stomach is satisfied! God did not put chocolate or lasagna or real blue cheese dressing on earth to torture us, but rather for our enjoyment. However, He wants us to learn how to rise above the magnetic pull of the refrigerator so that food does not consume our lives!

The problem and the solution

We have been created with two empty, needing-to-be-fed holes in our body. One is the stomach, and the other is the heart.

The stomach is a literal hole in our body which is to be fed with the proper amount of food. As for the heart, I am speaking figuratively of our deep-down feelings. To satisfy these deep-down feelings, needs, or desires of the heart, we may often turn to food and overload our stomach with more than it needs.

Trying to feed a hurting, needy heart with food or anything on this earth (alcohol, tobacco, antidepressants, sexual lusts, money, the praise of other people, etc.) is a common error. The person who attempts to feed a longing heart with food will stay on the path to overweight. Those who pursue an overindulgence of alcohol or tobacco or power will also reap the consequences of those pursuits. There is nothing inherently evil about food, alcohol, tobacco, money, credit cards, etc. However, it is wrong to become a slave to any of these things or to let them master you.

The solution for overweight

As you can see from the diagram, we have been trying to feed our hurting, longing hearts with physical food. We have also learned to love food. Therefore, the solution is as follows:

  1. Relearn how to feed the stomach only when it is truly hungry.
  2. Relearn how to feed or nourish the longing human soul with a relationship with God.
  3. Relearn how to recognize the different "hunger" urges and not confuse them.

A lot of people don't feel "hunger." I know what you are saying. I didn't know what hunger was either because my eating habits were so off.

Wonderful review but coming from one who has battled anorexia off and on for 20+ years I would probably die because I never really feel hungry. I'm glad you found something that works for you.
