Weeds Review Summary

Weeds is "one of the funniest, smartest, best-written shows on TV." Starring Mary-Louise Parker and Elizabeth Perkins, this comedy/drama on Showtime is about "a suburban mom whose husband dies and she turns to selling drugs." Reviewers particularly enjoy Weeds' "original premise and great plot twists," but they also enjoy the cast, believing they are "truly gifted." Reviewers wish the series was lengthened to a full hour and caution that there is nudity, violence, and language for those that are easily offended or parents looking for more appropriate viewing for their children. Perhaps Weeds can best be summed up by "a satire of suburban life with lots of laughs to make it go down easier." Other original series on Showtime include Californication, Dexter, and Queer as Folk.

Weeds is a very, very funny show about a suburban mom whose husband dies and she turns to selling drugs.  The acting is brilliant, the writing is hysterical, and so far in season two, they have managed to keep it going. The series is a satire of suburban life with lots of laughs to make it go down easier.

If you take it to seriously or too literally, you will hate it.

There is nudity, violence and language, so if those things offend you stay away.

For my tastes, it is one of the best shows on tv today.

Imagine yourself as a straight-laced, 30-something suburban housewife whose loving husband suddenly dies. Left with what so many Americans these days are facing - massive debt - what are your choices? Having left behind the world of paid employment years ago to raise children and run a household, you don't have what most people think of as marketable skills or experience. What's a woman to do?

This is the premise of Showtime's series, Weeds. Mary Louise Parker plays Nancy Botwin, a recently widowed mom whose mourning for her dead husband is interrrupted by the harsh reality that there's no money...

We love this show. I had heard about Weeds in the past, but had never watched it. We wanted to start from the beginning so rented Season one and became hooked! We checked out the next two seasons and watched them straight through. Can't wait to see season 4!
This movie has some dark humor, and things that you know you shouldn't be laughing at, but do anyways. We love humor like that.
Unbelievable situations, and really kept us on the edge of our seats the whole time.
Not a family show! Some nudity, which doesn't bother us, and graphic situations.

Growing up I never had cable. Now that I do, I realized how much I had missed! Weeds is such a smart show, very clever one liners, and although the story line sounds like it could be outrageous, it is always quite believable. Every show ends and makes you count down the days to the next episode. The only downfall is once you hear the opening song, you can't get it out of your head.

I really like the show "Weeds".  I picked it up at the library because I do not have Showtime.   Season one was fantastic.  It is interesting, the characters are a bit foul-mouthed at times, but raw and gritty, the characters have gumption.  I would recommend this to friends and family, but not to anyone under 16, of course, because of the drugs and the language.  It is a show that once you start watching, you want to keep on watching to find out what happens next. I like also that sometimes there are surprise guests on a show.  Its mainly about a single mother with two sons, she feels there... read full review »

Weeds is great witty entertainment for those who are openminded and like tons of plot twists.  The situations that Nancy finds herself in aer hilarious in contrast to her housewife persona.  I only wish it were an hour long show, as there is barely enough time to develop the plot in each episode.

With all the boring reruns, cable was showing the same old movies.I walked around walmart trying to find a movie to watch. I seen this was a sitcom and reluctantly purchased it. It seems to take me several times to watch a few bits and pieces to really get into a show at times. But i enjoyed this show more than i had anticipated. I couldn't wait to start watching it on a regular basis. Unfortunately i had missed the second season as i had bought this at the end of season 2. i'm now looking to buy it to catch up. I love nancy's character. I'm so glad showtime has renewed the show and i seriously... read full review »

Since we did not have Showtime last year,  I bought WEEDS - SEASON 1 on DVD,  because  so many people told me "You just have to see that, or have you caught Weeds yet?"   After receiving it, I, of course, showed my husband & we started watching it.  What a funny funny, really relateable show.

We could not stop watching it & were very bummed that we were able to view the whole season in just 2 nights.  Being just 1/2 hour episodes, they go very fast.  If it was up to me I would make each episdoe 1 hour long.

Because We just had to continue with it, we now have Showtime  to view...

I have been watching this show from the start, and it swear it gets funnier and funnier each season!  The writing is original....there isn't another show on tv like it.  The cast is truly gifted.  They all mesh very well.  And the list of guest stars!  Matthew Modine....The Olsen girl....just awesome!  The fact that it is on Showtime means they can really tell a great story.  Nothing censored!

I have watched Weeds since the beginning of the first season and it took me about 2-3 episodes to get hooked, but I have considered the show to be pretty great since then. Like a fine wine (or other intoxicant ;-) ), this show gets better and better with time and I really have to say that season 3 has been the best so far. It's also the longest season so far, so that makes up for the episodes only being about a half hour each.

I saw an episode of the 1stv season of Weeds when Showtime was free for one week-and I decided I had to see more. Mary Louise Parker is fabulous in this-and just PERFECT for the part! This program is just about as close to reality(with minor exceptions) as possible-and brings the suburban world of drug dealing into the spotlight. Endlessly entertaining, and I know will have to rent the 1st Season on dvd.

this is the best show out there! This show comes on one of the movie networks i don't have and just happened to catch it at a friends house and the next day i added the network to my package just to watch this show. I have bought every season that has come out on dvd. The storyline is clever and witty with an edge into a family that represents hardships people face. Watch this!
