Weeds - Season 1 Review Summary

"Sex, Drugs, and the Suburban Housewife" seems to be the best way to describe the Showtime series Weeds. Starring Mary-Louise Parker and Elizabeth Perkins, the show revolves around "a housewife in uber-suburbia [who] turns drug dealer after her husband dies, leaving her with a limited income." Fans of Weeds are prescribing to the premium cable channel of Showtime specially for this show that they call "witty and twisting," and "hilarious and touching." Because of the glorified drug use in the show, all agree it isn't for kids, but feel it's "a must-see" for adults, showing the commentary on "what people are willing to do for money." Reviewers see it as lighter than shows like Six Feet Under and The Sopranos, making it more on the same level as Sex and the City. Overall, fans find Weeds "original, funny, dramatic, and quirky."

The summer season brings with it a drought of television shows, so when my husband saw "Weeds: Season 1" available at the video store, he brought home the first disc with several episodes on it.

About Weeds
This Showtime series has an interesting premise: a housewife in uber-suburbia turns drug dealer after her husband dies, leaving her with a limited income. The show appealed to me for several reasons: first, as a woman who lives in the ultimate suburban wasteland full of pretty houses, the intro sequence featuring the song "Little Boxes" drew me right in. I love the idea of the straightlaced housewife...

One of the most provacative, witty, and entertaining shows on television today.  An original plotline, and the acting is superb.  The third season isn't as good as the first and second seasons, but is a fantastic watch nonetheless.  I highly recommend Weeds to anyone looking for something to stimulate the senses.

Little by little, Showtime has been struggling to catch up with the seemingly endless success-run HBO has had with their original programming. Mary-Louise Parker plays Nancy Botwin, a recently widowed mother of two struggling to keep her home and family afloat as she faces a newfound poverty. She stumbles upon a unique possibility, founding a new business as the premiere dealer of marijuana within the unsuspecting typical but fictional L.A. suburban community of Agrestic.

Season One explores the many pitfalls of a "pretty skinny white lady" starting up a business and making her way in the world...

My mother got a copy of this season from a friend of hers. She brought it home and watched it and LOVED it! So, since it came highly recommended, I watched it too. I LOVED IT! This show is hillarious and touching at the same time. I was hooked. Although the later seasons are just as funny, their not nearly as heartfelt as the first season. This is the one that started it all. If you watch the later seasons, you'll be so surprised at how everything turns out for these characters. Talk about plot twists!

The only negative thing I can think of is the image of drug use that is being presented. However,...

Weeds is halrious. We all say we would do anything for our kids, but would you really. If your spouse died and left you nothing but 2 kids and bills. What would you do? Well She may go farther than you would but you must watch, its great.  Parker is a great actress we all saw her in Fried Green Tomatoes. She was great then and even better know. The story line is funny, leaves you on edge and I can't get enough. Just when you think she has her life back on track the writers throw you a curve ball.

A MUST SEE

This show is awesome. I'm not a pot smoker or anything, but I still constantly watch this show. It's addicting, and you really can't wait to see what'll happen next! Though I don't have shotime or cable even, I still try to watch it as soon as it comes out. I'm always disappointed when I come to the end of the season and have no more episodes to watch. Yes, it's a lot shorter than any other TV show, but a lot happens in 12 episodes. It's amazing! I love it! Something that I can actually say I'll watch over and over again.

Ok WEEDS season 1, with the title, do I need to day more? Lets see, I ve seen seasons 1- current season, AND I LOVE IT. who would ever thought that Nancy Botwin could actually do what she is doing. the first season, is so funny, from the scene with Hayla and Conrad with Nancy to Doug smokin in the car at his son's soccer game. the entire cast is excellet, I have recommend it to a whole lot of people and they have started watching. I can also say its not a show for kids, but its a GREAT show for adults.

Weeds is "da" bomb! This show is centered around a suburban family that has gotten hooked up in the drug trade. You guessed it, Marijuana! LOL She is a widow with 2 children and a mooching brother ( He does have her back for whatever)! This show is really taking off. Nancy has done drive bys and hung out with gangsters. In this season she even has her own grow weed house. Thi show is a must see. All the characters in this show are extremely funny.

I was prepared to hate this tv show.  I love Mary-Louise Parker, but wasn't sure how she'd do in Weeds.  The show is hilarious!  The cast is wonderful, and diverse.  I love Parker's dealer - she is a force to be reckoned with!  I would recommend this show to anyone with a sense of humor.  There is drama, profanity, and sexual situations, too, but the characters get into the most hilarious predicaments.

weeds is a show that is so realistic and very interesting. I highly recommend anyone whos struggles in life with money to watch this show. This show shows exactly how hard it is to sell weed and how dangerous it is. It also shows what people are willing to do for money. This is very heart warming in my opinion. Theres the people you always hate because they are so rude and the people that are innocent and just tryna get by.

Weeds is a dark, edgy comedy about a suburban mother who secretly deals pot to support her family after the death of her husband.  While there is much to laugh about in every episode, there is also a lot in the characters that the viewers can relate and connect to, making it also a compelling drama.  Season 1 is definitely worth the buy as each episode is worth of rewatching.

It seems that all the great writers in Hollywood are now working in TV. Movies all seem to cater to the lowest common denominator, while the TV shows are getting better. Weeds is a bit more shallow than some of the dramas/dark comedies (like Six Feet Under, Dead Like Me, Farscape, Buffy and Sopranos), but for pure entertainment it ranks right up there with Sex and the City.

I am an avid TV on DVD watcher.  I ordered Seasons 1 & 2 of Weeds and watched them every night until I was through.  It only took a week to get through both seasons.  It is a wonderfully written, funny, and smart show.  I told all my friends how much I love, love, love Weeds.  I can't wait for my Season 3 to arrive.
