Plot
John and Jeremy are two friends who share a strange hobby. They are professional wedding crashers. Their mission?...to get chicks. Not for love or romance, but basically for one night stands. Touching isn't it? Their theory is that at every wedding there are single girls who are so depressed about being single. Well, they may be right, but are those girls really that depressed that they'll fall for these guys?

Ok, so the story develops as John gets a little too attached to a bridesmaid and simultaneously Jeremy's Bridesmaid is a little too attached to him. What's next? Can the wedding crasher rules help them get out of this? You'll have to watch it if you really want to know.

Actors
Vince Vaughn as Jeremy is the humorous one. He's the one with all the funny comments, but he's also the one with all the slapstick humor. He goes through a lot of suffering due to John's crush and that makes him the main (if not only) source for laughs.

Owen Wilson plays John and is obviously meant to be the more caring one of the two. He has a few funny lines here and there, but overall he's just the boring one... I mean serious one.

The girls that are in most of the movie (Rachel McAdams and Isla Fisher) are pretty stupid. Isla is sort of funny but overall their made out to be very gullible in that they fall for almost everything. I did like Christopher Walken as their father, but he wasn't involved nearly enough. I wold have liked to see a lot more of him. Jane Seymour as their mother was...strange. What the heck was wrong with her anyway?

Genre
It's marked as Comedy/Romance, but I had expected it to be more comedy. Instead, it was mostly focused on Drama and Romance with Comedy being an after thought. I was disappointed as I had heard the movie was "hilarious" from multiple people and I just didn't get that many laughs. The romance turned out to bore me because I wanted to laugh!

Believability
I had a lot of Believability issues with this movie. I will not give away too much as to not ruin it for others, but here are my problems.

1. I don't believe it would be that easy to break into any wedding. Ok, you might get into the church ceremony but it's highly unlikely that you could get to sit down at the reception without someone saying "who the heck is that?" So maybe this movie assumes that people at wedding really don't have a clue who all the other guests are...but when I go to a wedding I usually know most of the people there. I'll also give it to them that friends may not know who all the guests are...but I doubt that the maid of honor wouldn't know who was invited!

2. I don't believe that with them going to all these weddings in such a short time period in all the same locations that NO ONE would ever figure them out. Yes they have a slight mention of this in the movie, but overall you would think there would be one guest that has been to multiple weddings and seen them.

3. I don't believe there are really girls out there that are THAT stupid. Ok, I have a few friends who might be pretty gullible, but if someone was trying to pick them up I think they'd at least verify with a relative to find out who they were before moving forward. What's worse is that these two guys are not attractive, at least not in my mind, so the girls would have to be REALLY stupid to buy all their lies.

4. I don't believe that these girls friends and family would let them just leave the wedding with some random guy. At least I would never let my friend leave the wedding with someone she and I don't know. Where are these girls friends?

Ok ok, I know it is just a movie, but since they didn't make any of that believable it did make it seem stupid to me. I think there could have been ways to make this seem like something that could actually happen - like maybe a guest does recognize them and start to cause trouble. Or maybe two or three of their old bridesmaids all show up at the same wedding! I was just looking for something like this that would show it's not that simple to get away with.

The only thing that was believable about all this was their trickery. They don't go into a wedding to hit on girls, they instead pretend to be all Kid-oriented. Dancing with the flower girl, making balloons, and that "draws" the girls to them.  That was pretty funny and one of the only laughable things about the movie.

John: Hey, listen. What angle are you going to play here?
Jeremy: I am going to go with the balloon animal display. For the kids. And then when she comes near, guess who is the broken man, haunted past? How about you?
John: I am going to go dance with the little flower girl. Oh, and I might be a charter member of Oprah's book club.

For Who?
Adults only please! And only adults who do not mind seeing girls portrayed as stupid and gullible. If you were looking for a comedy filled laughing movie, then don't rent this. If you are okay with the romance aspect, then give it a try.

Conclusion
Most of the funny parts were shown in the commercials - I hate when they do that! I feel like this movie was advertised as a huge comedy hit but was instead a romance. If they had made it more focused on Comedy, all the believability problems wouldn't have mattered. But, since they focused on romance, it made these problems stand out and made me say "That would never happen"

So rent it if you really wanted to see it, but don't be surprised if you are bored! Try to enjoy!!

In response to lilsquibb's comment from Oct 13, 2008 at 7:57PM:

We rented it b/c we expected it to be hilarious. The difference with American Pie is it's more of a teeny-bopper fun, which I enjoy. As an adult movie, this one failed to keep me laughing.

Did you watch the "unrated" version or the TV version that has been on recently? I'm guessing you would have liked the DVD one even less. I do like this one though. Has an American Pie feel to it.
