When I relocated last year to a house with a deck and everything I was sitting out on the deck one afternoon with the little Weber Smokey Joe cookin' up a burger and slurgin' a brewski and the ol' Smokey was lookin' mighty puny there in the middle of all that deck space.
Weird, because it looked just fine on my dinky little apartment balcony just a month or so before this..... d;-)
I figured it was time to upgrade. Now, I'd had a Weber Kettle at the old house, but the ex took possession of that one as I didn't have the space for it at the apartment. It was probably 15 years old when I inherited...
read full review »This grill is great! I used to have the standard Weber kettle grill (actually being stored in the garage still) and switched to this because of the convenience of the gas starter. I am not a fan of a traditional gas grill....I like the flavor of charcoal, but this gave me the best of both worlds. It's like a blow torch on the coals (same tank actually as a blow torch). Plenty of space both on the grill and...

You do have to put it together, so give yourself an hour and some space to work. I put mine together in the garage. Once together, its a pretty well built machine and design. A previous poster mentioned the lack of handles, and I concur, they would be helpful, but I think most of us don't really plan on moving our grills around so much, so it really does not bother me at all.
I am using the higher grade charcoal, not the stuff you can find at every supermarket on the block. So my start time...
The overall grill and charcoal bin design is great. I bought this product for it's design and convenience of gas ignition of charcoal. Unfortunately, the gas igniter failed within 4 months. Weber cheerfully sent a new one which also did not work. There's a design or production flaw somewhere in the igniter system. If you buy this product, plan on having a lot of match boxes handy.
