We Are Marshall Review

We are Marshall was well written.  What an emotional film. The casting for this film was really done well.  I didn't know the circumstances surrounding this film and the beginning of the movie just grasps your soul.  I managed to get through without a tissue - what a surprise!  As the story develops, the movie takes on a variety of comedy, sadness, hope, and determination.  We are Marshall will appeal to many different people and it's a story that everyone should hear. You don't have to be a sports fan to watch this.

Matthew McConaughey was perfect for his role as, the side-talking, Coach Jack Lengyel. He always steals the scenes.  Matthew Fox's (from Lost) role as Red Dawson was just as good. David Strathairn's performance as President Dedmon was very impressive.  He's a very talented man. Kate Mara was "okay" in her acting for her character, Annie Cantrell. My only disappointment was in the diner when she first speaks to her finance's father after the tragedy.  She made all of the sounds of a distraught person but wasn't able to shed a tear!   Anthony Mackie did a great job portraying Nate Ruffin, one of the few players who wasn't on the plane when it crashed. I didn't recognize him so I wasn't sure how well he would pull this off.  He made you feel the pain - when you see the movie you'll understand.

I am certain that this film was touching to the many people that lived through the tragedy and probably even the students who currently attend Marshall today.  It definitely was to me and my family.  I highly recommend this film.
