Washington Mutual Review Summary

Bank options for the homeower- to- be are numerous, and Washington Mutual is one of several banking options that exist to help borrowers obtain a mortgage. Reviewers like Washington Mutual for several reasons, like its free checking accounts, customer service, and competitive loan rates. Positive comments relating to Washington Mutual include “WAMU Online Banking is Great” and “We Had No Problem With This Company”. Unfortunately for Washington Mutual, there are just as many negative comments as positive and one reviewer sums up the experience quite directly by saying “Never, Ever, Ever Bank Here”. The problems cited with Washington Mutual include its lack of knowledge among its employees and the discourteaous way the employees often treat WAMU customers. So, when everything is considered, Washington Mutual ranks as an average to below average Mortgage Lender that provides inconsistent service at best.

Somebody cloned my card (apparently, that can be done). They drained my account of over 6,000 dollars. I paid EXTRA to even get an account with this bank. EXTRA for the fraud protection. EXTRA! I have contacted the bank daily for OVER A MONTH. Sent emails, called, went in. They kept saying things like, oh, we are investigating, oh, we will take care of it. NOTHING was ever done. I just got off the phone AGAIN with a fraud department, she yelled at  me, belittled me, accused me of lying to her, and downright treated me like dirt. Why am I paying for this? They refuse to do anything about this,... review »

On Feb. 9th, I was speaking to Pam Bacci of the Mortgage (Refinance) Division in Chicago of WAMu for us to do a modification of our mortgage. We were told that in order for us to get a better rate, we have to pay down the existing loan amount to the conforming loan amount of $417,000. I then proceeded to do that so on Feb 13th, I went to a local branch in National City CA (#1470) to make the said deposit. The teller, Cynthya, asked me if I had already made a payment for February and since I knew that the monthly payment is automatically taken out of our account on the 1st of the month, I told... review »

I have been with WaMu for a few months now and I absolutely enjoy their service. I signed up for the Free Checking and the Online Savings accounts.

What I love the most is that I never have to visit a WaMu branch since I can do most of my banking through their online banking website. Everything you can think of is there! From viewing statements, transferring funds between my WaMu and external bank accounts, contacting customer care via the built in messaging system, paying bills....I could go on and on.

The site is easy on the eyes as it has a nice, clean interface and it just draws you in and makes...

on a strict budget

It has been over ten years since the incident, but since I have been on a strict budget it has made an impact on my view of the reliability of the automatic banking system.  I lost $240 from my checkbook and never got it back from Washington Mutual Bank.  Since then, I have never used an automatic teller.  I should have kept my transaction receipts.  Saving all banking receipts should be a practice by everyone.  Its the only proof that works, because having it proves what transaction was performed.  My transaction was that of finding out what my balance was so that I can buy my Thanksgiving...

We have never been late on a mortage payment and received a notice from WaMu that they could lower our interest rate by more than 2%.  Great!  Or so I thought.  When I called to get the info, I was told that even though they already held our mortgage, a full title examination of our property would have to be completed -- even though they could check from the time we financed with WaMu to the present time.  Closing costs were estimated at over $3,000.00!?!?!?!  What a way to save money :-(.  Now--if we were behind on our payments, they would be more than willing to help lower our interest... review »

Someone stole my ID and opened up an acocunt with these people.  I had to fight like a dog to get them to close the account and they gave me the run around about haivng "my" signature on record which, after many months and phone calls, they freakin' found and no, it didn't match my name.  This was handled very unprofessionaly and they probably loose a lot of money taking their time investigating fraudulent situations.

Hope banks are doing better in the near future.  Everybody is using bank at least one in their lifetime and of course, you want you have lot of money in bank(s). So if banks are okay then you feel safe to have money there...When we heard banks are doing not well, we do not have safety feeling to keep money in banks.  Where we are going to keep them then?

On Feb 20th, @ 9:45 am, I called WAMu's customer service toll free number to find out the amount of my principal balance from the fiasco that one of WAMu's local branch has done to my account (Check my other review - WAMu's local branch in National City, CA).

After 30 minutes on hold (that they have a high volume of calls that day - so when is it not high?) someone finally answered the phone. A female employee (I did not catch her name but if they WAMu check the notes on my account they will know who she is), I explained to her my situation (about the local branch not crediting my account completely...
