Washing Machine Survey Results - See what Viewpoints members really think about their washers
It's hard enough to shopping for a new washer, but with each brand constantly bombarding us with commercials telling us they're the best, it's really hard to figure out which brand actually is the best.
That is, until now.
We sent out a survey asking Viewpoints members to rate their own washers. Over 8,000 people responded to tell us what they really think about their washing machines.
Members rated their washers on a scale from 1-5, with 1 being "very satisfied" and 5 being "very dissatisfied," on the following criteria:
- Overall performance
- Value
- Reliability/Durability
- Features/Technology
- Style
So are you ready to finally get some unbiased advice about which washer you should get? Let Viewpoints help you shop smarter for washers!
Here are the dirty details (or clean, depending on how you look at it):
Overall Performance
On the whole, people are pretty happy with their washers. 85% of respondents said they were satisfied with the overall performance of their washer.
Moreover, 91% of people who bought their washers less than a year ago were likely to recommend their washing machine to a friend. But only 82% of people with a washer that was at least five years old would recommend theirs to a friend.
The Winner - Samsung
"After buying other brands and returning them we got the Samsung and couldn't be more pleased."
The Average Joe - Whirlpool
"Just your basic machine. No problems, but definitely nothing spectacular."
The Washout - Frigidaire
"Frigidaire sure doesn't make them like they used to."
Value
81% of people said they were satisfied with the value of their washer. However, respondents who purchased their washers more than ten years ago were just as satisfied with value as those who bought their washers less than a year ago.
The Winner - Fisher & Paykel
"I think out of all the washing machines that I have owned or used, this has to be the best on the market."
The Average Joe - Frigidaire
"It is a very inexpensive but fairly satisfactory washer."
The Washout - Bosch
"Some of the plastic housing has cracked, which apparently is common for Bosch. Given how expensive this brand is, it is annoying."
Reliability & Durability
People who purchased their washers more than 10 years ago were more satisfied with the reliability and durability of their washer than people who purchased their washer less than a year ago.
The Winner - Samsung
"Awesome machine. I do tell people how much I love my Samsung washing machine. It works great and plays me a little tune when it's done!"
The Average Joe - Amana
"It is a great machine, but the middle part starting tearing up fairly early."
The Washout - Bosch
"Machine grew mold no matter what we did."
Features & Technology
70% of respondents said they were satisfied with the features and technology of their washer. But only 32% of these people said they were very satisfied.
The Winner - Fisher & Paykel
"I love all the features, including the auto-water level sensing."
The Average Joe - GE Profile
"Has worked well so far. I would like some increased functionality as far as options and settings but overall, it's serviceable."
The Washout - Amana
"It was free on the side of the road, so I guess you get what you pay for."
Style
People who bought their washer less than a year ago were a lot more satisfied with the style of their washer than those who got their washer five or more years ago.
The Winner - Samsung
"I love the cherry red and futuristic look and the way it matches my house."
The Average Joe - Frigidaire
"Good basic model. Cleans clothes well. Quiet."
The Washout - Amana
"The basket is too small and the finish didn't hold up."
