After hours and hours spent surfing web sites and buying guides, I finally settled on a hand-full of deep fryers. I wish more stores were like Best Buy in that you can see if an item is available (in-store) for immediate pick up. Most other places don't include that information on their respective web sites. Helps save on gas too.
Finally decided to actually do some detective work and search several stores for hands-on inspection of the various styles and construction. Checked out Sears, Macy's, JC Penneys and Bed, Bath and Beyond. I go to BB&B so often the girls there know me by name. Everytime I walk in they ask me if I just received a new coupon in the mail. I go there quite often to purchase my Keurig coffee cups.
Not only did BB&B have the Waring Pro Deep Fryer, but it was marked down from $119.99 to $99.99. I 'stacked' a couple of coupons and ended up purchasing the unit for $77.37 (tax included). What a deal!
Came home, cleaned up the unit, set it up and cooked up a bunch of chicken wings. The unit heated up quickly and maintained the selected heat range throughout the cooking process. Chicken came out nice and crispy and done to perfection.
The thing I really like, being kind of a neat freak, is the fact that the entire unit can be taken down piece by piece and completely cleaned. Oil container, once drained, went into the dishwasher along with the cover and the basket. The heating element was hand-washed with Dawn. After everything was dried, the unit was put back together and placed atop the kitchen cabinets...it just barely fit.
So far, I think the unit is great. I've seen some other reviews and photos and it appears that some models come with a stainless-steel oil container to hold the cooking oil. The one I bought has an enameled container. Don't know if that means I have an older unit or a newer one.
I would recomment the Waring Pro Deep Fryer to anyone interested.
