Most of them are assembled by someone making minimum wage who doesn't care. Most of them have steal frames vs. lighter aluminum frames. You're lucky to find one that shifts properly if it's a multi-speed bike. One "sales associate" even told me they didn't have an air pressure gauge during assembly. "We just pump up the tires till they feel firm." PLEASE!
If the shift cables stretch, will Wal-Mart readjust them? No. If the bike needs a Spring check up, will Wal-Mart do it? No. If you have any warranty problems, you're only alternatives are an exchange or refund, IF it's within their time limits.
Ever notice that Wal-Mart & similar stores sell after-market bike seats? That's because the seats that come on the bikes are so uncomfortable.
You want a generic steal framed bike...go to Wal-Mart. You want something that is truly a joy to ride...go to a real bicycle shop.
