Living in the country has it's downsides.  My children have a 20 gallon tank needing some fish to enjoy in it.  So we drove 40 miles to the nearest place with fish, which was Walmart.

The fish looked ok, but I think they may have just cleaned the tanks out.  So we got 10 little fish of all sorts, rushing them home.  They quickly developed symptoms of fungus and none of them made it past a week even with treatment.  Walmart refused to give us a refund, and only offered more fish, so we went back home and had 10 funerals, they had names and everything after all.  I've had fish for 20 years and never had this happen.  Our last fish died at 7 years of age (ciclid).

It was an overall bad experience, the drive to Walmart twice, the sadness of the kids, the money spent on treatment, the snotty service rep who blamed me for the deaths even though fungus was actually visible on the fish, waiting for the manager to show up, and the sheer fustration of it.

I'm sorry you and your kids had to learn that way! WalMart is good for those looking for rock bottom prices and bulk stocking -- no pet should be shopped for that way.

Every time I go to a Walmart and go to the fish section, all I ever see is dirty tanks and dead fish. I never fail to see dead fish in abundance. That's never a good sign!
