I first started buying fish when my husband made me a small pond for my garden and the fish became pets for my children because they needed to be wintered indoors.
I bought my first fish for the pond at our local Walmart. While there I noticed a lot of sick looking fish, but I confess the even though I had researched the fish I wanted for my pond, I really knew nothing about other fish.
The first fish I purchased only lasted a couple days and went 'belly up'. I was dissapointed, but sure it was something I did wrong. Since Walmart had a return policy , I took my poor dead fish and sadly exchanged them for more.
The next round of fish from Walmart didnt last much longer than the first. By this time I knew a lot more about fish and could see that the conditions of almost all the fish at Walmart were terrible. There were so many sick fish! Not only were there sick fish, but others were being added to the tanks with the ones that were already sick.
I was disgusted and made a complaint. I did not and will not ever purchase another fish from Walmart. I went to our local petstore for my fish, which have survived for over 2 years now.
