Walk the Line Review Summary

Walk the Line isn't just a hit song by Johnny Cash, it's also a "fairytale treatment of Johnny Cash and June Carter" by way of an Oscar-winning movie. With a story that tells of Johnny's rise to fame, as well as his and June's trials and tribulations along the way, Walk the Line is a chance to "see into the personal lives of two very famous people, and while watching their lives unfold, be able to hear the great music they made." Reviewers had felt they knew Johnny Cash the man, but watching Walking the Line, found it to be "both entertaining and insightful." Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon were both nominated for Oscars for their roles as Johnny and June, with Witherspoon getting the eventual win, yet fans of the film feeling that "Joaquin WAS Johnny Cash." Overall, Walk the Link is a "solid portrayal of a great musican." After watching the film, enjoy the music of Johnny Cash to totally enjoy the music of the man.

I enjoyed this movie very much. I like Johnnys music and thought that this was a great way to sort of see into the personal lives of two very famous people, and while watching their lives unfold be able to hear the great music they made, learn something about how the song came to be and so much more....

Walk the Line (2005)

Johnny Cash’s recent death has unleashed a whirlwind of popularity not seen since his breakout album Live at Folsom Prison with the big hit Folsom Prison Blues. Johnny had a popular TV show and he would bring out his wife June Carter and they would sing.

I had mixed emotions...

Johnny Cash is a musical legend- a man from humble roots who went from the backcountry of Arkansas to the center of concert stages across America and the world. In this movie, Walk the Line, Cash's chaotic career and personal life are placed in the spotlight for all to see.

Movie Commentary:

"Walk the Line" is a movie I placed on my must- see list when I first heard about it, long before the news hit the streets that it was about to be released. I found out about this movie through the Internet Movie Database one day in early 2005 when I was looking at some movie facts on the career of Joaquin...

Walk The Line. A movie about Johnny Cash. I knew of Johnny Cash before this movie and had heard some things of his but after watching this movie I became a Cash freak!! I love him so much now. Joaquin Phoenix is a great actor and does an amazing job being Johnny Cash. I really liked Reese Witherspoon in this movie also, this is very different for her being in this role and its just very unlike what she does and I liked that. Its not boring, its upbeat and very musical. The acting feels very real and tells his true story of touring and making his dreams come true along with finding love and the...

I am not a Johnny Cash fan, but this movie was very interesting. I had heard things about Johnny Cash, but not nearly what was portrayed in this movie. It was both entertaining and insightful. I got a new impression/respect for Johnny and June. The acting was superb...Reese was unbelievable as June...and her singing/comedy was on the money. Joaquin WAS Johnny Cash.....the mannerisms, the singing and the attitude are all just like the times I had seen or heard or read about Johnny Cash.

An interesting look into Johnny and June Carter Cash's lives.  Probably from a sympathic viewpoint.  Good acting.  Interesting story.  But once you've seen it, no need to re-rent it.

Loved this movie. Hollywood put out two amazing musician biographies back to back years (This and Ray). Although Johnny Cash's voice isn't hard to impersonate (I myself am pretty damn good), Joaquin Phoenix was pretty solid in his portrayal. I know w...(read more) e've all seen this story before, good times bad times, good times bad times, with a happy ending, but this movie rubbed me the right way I guess. Reese Witherspoon is gold as June Carter. The final scene where Cash asks her to marry him and she finally accepts was the last time I cried watching a movie. Their chemistry is amazing.
