Try the ointment version. Can really calm down non-stop itches!

A little scratch. A little infection. A BIG itch! Please be aware that I followed directions and did NOT apply **Walgreens Maximum Strength Hydrocortisone 1%** on broken skin! The content of this one-ounce tube is for external use only. But even then, it covers a lot of potential needs. In my case, the area around the scratch on my arm was both hot and bothersome. Without getting near the open skin, I gently smoothed on a small amount of **Walgreens Max Strength Cortisone** where the itch extended and -- voila! -- reduced the desire to scratch further. Since I'm a big scratcher and the weather is dry, this is a great small-area ointment for itches that won't quit. There are, I'm sure, numerous 1% active-ingredient cortisone creams and ointments. With **Walgreens**, though, I'm assured of promised results at a most reasonable price. The inactive ingredients here are mineral oil and white petrolatum. *Don't use on children under two.* When possible, DO wash and dry the affected area before applying the ointment. Be aware that petrolatum and mineral oil can stain clothing, so don't dress up! This product is also advised for insect bites, poison oak or ivy, jewelry/detergent/cosmetic-type irritations and external (there's that word again) genital and/or anal itching. **Walgreens Hydrocortisone 1%** is NOT TO BE USED ON DIAPER RASH. To cover your bases, get your close-up glasses and spend a minute or two with all the fine print. Boring. But worth it!
