This Walgreens in Alameda is the only pharmacy opened 24 hours. While others close at 6pm on weekends or 9pm on weekdays, this Walgreens can service you from dusk until dawn and they know this. They have a monopoly in Alameda and unless people want to drive to Highland or further out in Oakland, they're stuck with Walgreens.
This is why they do not accept any discount prescription drug cards, except their own - which is not free - but they ask if you'd like to pay into the "Walgreens discount drug card" that costs $20, just to save a few dollars per prescription. They still accept most major drug plans (like Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Health Net) but as Walgreens is non-union, union workers may be up a creek when deciding to use them or not (if their plans are accepted).
The store itself is nice, and the employees are usually helpful and respectful. It's just the policies that are frustrating, especially when they'd rather push their private club on patients instead of helping them.
