Decent School, But Do Your Research First...

I have recently decided to pursue an MBA. I was comparing different online schools and found that the accrediation between ACBSP and ACCSB is very important and can greatly impact your future career ambitions. Make sure that you REALLY know what you want to do before you begin the program with any institution that offers an MBA program and is not ACCSB accredited. To explain, the ACCSB is the gold standard of business schools; where ACBSP is the bronze. The only time where the two may not be so detrimental is if you are already in your chosen field and wish to attain advancement within the company you are with, or have no interest in obtaining an upper-level management position (e.g. Executive management)with a Fortune 100 company. Although it may be possible that you could, your chances are much less likely, because most potential employers are searching for top notch candidates who come from higher respected programs, meaning that they are ACCSB accredited. I am not trying to discourage you from choosing Walden. My intentions are just to fully inform you about how highly regarded a program's accreditation is by potential employers, and make you consider important how it can potentionally limit opportunities. On a final note, if you are seriously considering applying for an institution's MBA program, do yourself a favor and take a few minutes out of your day and check out these links so you are fully informed: Sources: http://www.aacsb.edu http://www.acbsp.org **Make sure you also google each accrediation and see for yourself which accrediation has the highest rating, and how it will impact your future ambitions** Good luck! : D

Online makes education available to everyone!

I've taught for many years in the public schools, but until recently, I did not have a master's degree.  Not being within an hour of a good university while I was raising my family kept me from pursuing further education. Then when I discovered Walden, I decided that I should take the time to complete my degree.  I found it a convenient way to pursue my degree.  The teachers were all extremely helpful and concerned.  The information was top rate.  This was definitely one of those experiences that you get out of it exactly what you are willing to invest in it. Since I took a sabatical, I had the time to really dig deep into the courses.  This made this experience worthwhile for me. On the downside, many of the students did not have this time and I found that Walden was unwilling to become a taskmaster or to demand quality work from students.  In turn this causes others not to value online degrees.

My experience at Walden U was not as I had originally anticipated. At Walden, I think most of the instructors try to work with and have more patience with hardworking adults, who have children and other major responsibilities. However, from my experience, there are a few that do not. For instance, I had a family crisis and one of the teachers, who I thought, would allow me to complete my work and grade it did not. She let me do all the work and did not grade it, so I did not pass that course. ( I made all A's in all the other courses and will probably get an A in my final course). When I attempted to find the email that I sent her and she responded to, Walden University had purged the email system; thus not allowing me to appeal the grade. I usually saved everything, but I did not get a chance to save that email to an external email. When I first started the degree program, I used my hotmail account to receive email correspondence, but later they changed it where all of the student's email addresses were through Walden. Now, I can see why.

Great Online School

I have recently been trying to decide which school I want to attend to go back for my bachelors degree in criminal justice.  I have to say out of the four schools I have been talking to, I recently chose Walden University. They were up front about everything, were not pushy and very helpful.  When trying to figure out which school is going to best meet ones needs and ones questions, it is important to get what you need out of speaking to someone rather than haveing to feel like you have no choice.  Walden University was great in answering every question I had, giving me answers and ways to find the answers I needed.  They were very knowledgeable and just all around helpful in my choice to attend.  I would recommend this school to everyone wanting to attend a college online if it teaches what they are wanting to do.

NOV 17 2007I had dreamed of going to college for 12 years when I saw a University of walden commercial. I realized that the only thing preventing me from getting a degree was my fear. Fear of getting into debt, fear of what people would think, fear of reaching outside of my comfort zone, fear of not having enough time for school, and the fear of failure. Fear had kept me from pursuing my dream for way too long, and I picked up the phone and requested an information packet. A few weeks later I filled out the application and mailed it in. The day I recieved my acceptance

How is it possible to achieve a masters degree online? I

3

I obtained my masters degree the "old fashioned way" - by going to class.  I am unsure of the quality of an online masters degree as the classmate and teacher interactions contributed to my learning experience.  I also had to do two internships which gave me great on the job experience.     If I were to obtain a second masters degree and wished to obtain it online what would the quality of that education compared to actually being in class?  What kind of support services are offered through on line degrees?

You Get What You Put Into It

I recently graduated from Walden University with an MBA and overall am very pleased with the experience.  I will say that there is quite a large amount of information I did not retain due to the extreme fast pace of the program.  Yet, I was able to keep many of the textbooks and will probably brush up if and when necessary for my work. I wasn't too thrilled with the quality of the instructors.  They had impressive career backgrounds, but lacked in the skills necessary to make a good professor.  Oftentimes they were also condescending which I find inexcusable, especially given the fact that most of us were busy, professional adults, not children. An online education is one where the student drives the experience.  You get out of it what you put into it and I believe all online schools can be measured somewhat equally in this regard.  Walden, however, might be a better choice for many though because it doesn't have a negative reputation in the business community as the University of Phoenix already seems to have.

what a great way to get a degree and easy to use

this is a great school.  although a bit pricey you can sign up for student loans.  good communication through email.  student groups are difficult when other students dont participate, but can be enforced by the instructor.  boards are easy classrooms to use, and good access to reference materials.  instructors are from all over and you can choose who you want when registering if you are familiar with them after a while.    this is a great school.  although a bit pricey you can sign up for student loans.  good communication through email.  student groups are difficult when other students dont participate, but can be enforced by the instructor.  boards are easy classrooms to use, and good access to reference materials.  instructors are from all over and you can choose who you want when registering if you are familiar with them after a while.
