While the 2001 Volvo S40 is considered to have a great style inside and out, owners have noticed a few problems with the Volvo S40 2001 model. Quirks reported on the ’01 Volvo S40 are the brakes not working initially on cold mornings and the engine stalling after several years. I truly love my Volvo for the most-part. It is quiet, drives solidly, good gas mileage, attractive on the inside and outside. The only bad thing is a big one! Volvo is a safe car but expensive to maintain

I bought my 2001 Volvo S40 turbo when it was about 3 months old. It had been used as a loaner car at the dealer and had about 3k miles on it. Initially I loved my car. I had all the extra features. 2001 Volvo S40 A great car with great styling

I have just aquired my 1st Volvo S40 a 2001 model with all the bells & whistles.

The car has 150k mi on it. It runs tremendously and needed minor maintence. It is one of the first cars I have known to be quite fast with a 4 cylinder engine and a with a turbo charger to boot while still maintaining great fuel mileage. I don't like the way it was designed so low to the ground feels like getting into a gocart. But once in it rides great and handles greatly on the road turns etc. This has really sold me so far on owning a Volvo when buying another car.

I loved the car for the first couple of years, and then it began to stall on me on the interstate.  Apparently something in the engine was made out of plastic, therefore it cracks after 5 years or so of driving, causing the cylinders to misfire, leaving me in a stalled vehicle on the interstate on several occassions.  It was going to cost several thousand dollars to fix, so i opted for an older model that isn't made out of plastic.

I'd always had Fords before I bought this Volvo 'certified pre-owned.'  It's a great little car -- 1.9L engine, Turbo standard.  Small enough to get good gas mileage (between 22 and 30, city/highway) but big enough to know you're driving a solid engine and a safe automotive body.

This is a great car. It is very safe and reliable.  I have been in two accidents and have not been hurt in either of them, and my 2 month old baby boy was in the back seat.  I love this car.  I will never buy anything other than a volvo.
