Vizio VP504F - incredible black levels and great value.
First of all I'm confused as to how a tv that has incredible picture quality and a crazy low price didn't receive more attention. I've found no reviews or critical praise for this perfect television. It is Vizios plasma swan song and it is a triumphant yet bittersweet ending. Consumer ignorance has caused many flat panel manufacturers to focus their efforts on LCD technology because they outsell plasma displays almost 2 to 1. Why does a flat panel technology that offers vastly inferior black level and picture quality outsell the superior display?I can't blame Vizio for reacting to the market since they, like every company, are in business to make money. Anyway, back to my rave review of the Vizio Vp504f. Aesthetically the look is very pleasing. The glossy black frame is not too thick and the thin unobtrusive speaker bar is a nice matte silver that offers acceptable sound quality. There's plenty of connections unless you need more that one component hookup. One nitpick I have is that the picture through the VGA connection was very washed out. Component and HDMI offered a much more vibrant picture. I chose to play The Dark Knight on Blu Ray as the first test for my new tv. I was absolutely floored by the picture quality. The blacks were inky black (as dark or darker than my uncles year old pioneer elite) the colors were spot on. I sat in awe and watched the whole movie speechless until the final credits rolled. Video games and HD Cable were equally impressive. This is just a darn good plasma display and I'm really happy with my purchase. I'm glad I snagged one before they stopped making them.
