2008

I have business cards at work so hadn't paid any attention to online companies offering business cards, until I started working on my own web sites. I thought it would be nice to have some cards to hand out when folks ask about my sites.

One of those deal flyers was on the counter where I'd ordered something from Amazon. It was from Vista Print dot com. I could get 250 business cards for $1.99.

I went to VistaPrint.com and checked things out. I thought maybe the cards would be real low quality or that they'd have the printing company name on them somewhere for advertising (which wouldn't look too cool).

My hopes weren't super high, but the site looked nice. It was easy to navigate. Very simple to set up a business card with templates. There was an option to upload and design your own with a photo or graphic. I thought about that, but I didn't want to spend a lot of time and then be disappointed.

Fortunately they had a barbecue graphic which worked out great for my site Yes You Can Grill. I just selected that and filled in the fields with information.

A variety of other offers popped up like stationary and magnets and so on. Those looked nice too, but I just didn't know what I'd think of the business cards. I just clicked on through to get my $1.99 cards.

With the slow boat shipping that I selected the order came to around $11.

My business cards came in today and are cute as can be. They look better than they did online. Colorful and fun. (There are more traditional ones as well - but grilling seemed to call for something more vibrant).

My order was shipped the next morning after I ordered. They estimated 14 days on shipping, but I got them in five days. That was impressive. I was thinking, "Boy, didn't I just order those a couple of days ago?"

I showed my high school son my cards. He wanted one for his wallet and said they were the coolest business cards he'd seen. "Most of them are dull. Your cards look cool," he said. He's not generally very gushy.

There are some coupons in with my order.

I may do the custom card option next time and match the look of the cards to my site (being designed now by someone who knows what she's doing with Dreamweaver). Then again, I liked the ones they made with the template. I'll have to think on that.

I was quite impressed with Vista Print. The quality is nice. The business cards are cute. They didn't put their own advertising on there anywhere. They got everything right and got the cards here much faster than expected (before my web site templates have been completed in fact). I say thumbs up and will order again.

My web site is not a sales site. It's just a hobby site. I've spent more on it than I'm making. Not even close. On the web site, I had to pay for the domain names, the host, design work (optional). It was a big leap, but I enjoy it. You might want to look at www.squidoo.com You get a free page and can do marketing. I have some pages there too, but they are not sales, so I don't know how they work for that. Some folks do well there from what I hear. That would be a way to try it out and not pay out of pocket. Sales is really not my thing. I just like to write. I have a site and business and cards and all, but it's just a hobby on my end.

Thanks, If you just let me know how to get one started and where to go and get it started and all those kind of things. I am not sure what kind of site but maybe post things on to sell. Maybe like a what not website. I have thought about doing candles and crafts. Oh how did you go about getting a name and that kind of stuff. Again thanks

Putting together a web site is a bear (-: No kidding. It does get easier. I'm really enjoying doing that. If you have questions, I'll try to answer. I'm still just guessing a lot myself.

WOW CyndiA, Thanks for letting me know about the vista print.com site. I have been wondering about the cards myself. I would like to get a business started but not sure how about going to get that done or even doing a website. If you ever like to drop some hints my way please do so. But the review you gave is wonderful and very helpful. Thanks and HUGS to you, Tator03

(-: Tks. I felt good about the cards and the price. Very little effort as well. They make things so simple. That's worth something to me as well. I'd much rather be writing than trying to set things up and wait for my printer.

I just ordered some for my paralegal business. I've had an account with them for a couple years, and have ordered before - I've always been happy with them. But I think 9-something for 250 good quality cards - you can't beat that with a stick. And yes, by the time you pay for printer ink and cardstock, making them yourself is more expensive.

Do you know of any good companies? This is my first one, and I really like them. I'd agree on the shipping being high. But they did such a nice job. I don't think the local office store could do it for less for a small order, but I prob should check. I have software, but those don't look as professional as these. I just do a page or two on my own for some random project.

You should get some that say "Smelling Good" and your web page here with your fragrance reviews! Those would be good conversation starters though I'll bet you can talk to most anyone.

Yeah. The shipping was a bit high. They were quick though and the cards were very nice. I have software to make my own business cards, but I think I prob still come out better ordering with these prices.

xiffi wrote on May 16, 2008 at 5:18AM

I've used them before - they make a nice quality product. They rely on you ordering more from them at either the regular price or even the sale prices. I'm sure they make up for the supplies with their "shipping," though - but still, cheaper than anywhere else you can get them made!

The magnets give you an advantage - they think of you everytime they look at their fridge and they can't be misplaced. Glad you like them. At first glance you got a good deal but the shipping cost was so high!!!! Yikes. Maybe you should try a different company next time or better yet make your own. : )

In response to LadyMagic's comment from May 15, 2008 at 6:07PM:

I just got the $1.99 box of 250 cards. I wanted to see how I liked the stuff first. Yes. They do have the magnets. Those looked cool. Also stationary and so on. Even address stamps. Lots of stuff. Before doing a big order, I'd prob match to my new sites on the logo and so on to "brand." I really like the barbecue cards though just made fast with the template option. I made a photo of the cute cards, but my phone number and address are on there - so decided that would not be a good idea to post. If you search "barbecue" at the site, you'll see the ones I got. Kind of burnt orange and a southwestern look. They really looked even better when I got them than online.

LadyMagic wrote on May 15, 2008 at 6:07PM

Business cards can be a great promotional tool. How many kinds did you get? Do they also carry the magnetic ones?
