Recumbent exercise bikes are supposed to be more comfortable to ride than upright exercise bikes. They provide back support while your legs are extended forward to do the pedaling. Also they are built lower to the ground so are easier to get on and get off. Despite those advantages I often had trouble finding a recumbent exercise bike that was comfortable, until I started using the Vision Fitness Recumbent Exercise Bike Model R2700HRT. This exercise bike truly is comfortable to ride, and does not have some of the shortcomings I have experienced in other models.
First off I like the Vision Fitness Recumbent Exercise Bike Model R2700HRT because the seatback is firmly padded yet comfortable. I get good, solid back support, but it's not stiff like a board. The seat's position is easily adjusted on a sliding track to get the proper distance from the pedals. Also, the seat does not shake hardly at all when pedaling. On many recumbent exercise bikes I have ridden, the seat shimmies enough to be very annoying, which does not happen on the Vision Fitness model. There are hand grips adjacent to the seat too, which are easy to grip.
As for features, the Vision Fitness Recumbent Exercise Bike Model R2700HRT has an easy-to-read programmable console so you can choose from a wide variety of exercise routines. The console clearly shows how to add in data such as the difficulty level of your exercise routine, which routine you want (such as hills, weight loss, cardio-focused, constant resistance), your weight, and time of the exercise routine. The console will then show in a continuous-feedback graph and digital display how far along you are in your routine, how many calories burned, Watts, time remaining, and distance in mileage. The console is very easy to read and easy to program.
I have also used the Vision Fitness Upright Exercise Bike, which I liked except that it rocked a little bit due to a short foot support in front. The recumbent model does not have that problem because virtually all your weight is on the back half of the unit, which has a wide base support. However, the upright model had a wider choice of handle grips than the recumbent model, which may be important to some users.
Overall I think the Vision Fitness Recumbent Exercise Bike is one of the best exercise bikes I have used. It is very stable, has an east-to-program console, and seems very sturdy in all respects. The machine is 60 inches long, 26 inches wide, and 52 inches in height so it does take-up a fair amount of room. But it's designed to hold up to 400 pounds and has a lifetime guarantee on the frame. The cost of this machine is around $2,100 so lucky for me I can ride it in the exercise room of my apartment complex. But if you buy one for your home it should endure for a good, long time.
