Stop, don't touch that Visa Gift Card!

Overall

I was in CVS buying lots of stuff including two gift cards. I had Kohl's in my hand. I had Target's in my hand. I had CVS in my hand. I then decided that I would get Robin, my mom's private caregiver, and my hairdresser Visa gift cards **so they could go anywhere they want. **1. I just pulled down the $50 one and the $25 one. I know I am responsible but I feel everyone should know so they don't make the mistake I made.2. Under the dollar amount which is in large numbers are smaller print which I did not see and even if I did I'm not sure I could read it. I later learned that it said $4.95 activation fee and $3.95 activation fee.

I feel terrible because I would rather have given...

I couldn't use my Visa gift card at a restaurant. The waitress said they constantly have this issue with Visa gift cards only. When I called customer service, they gave me a lame excuse, which I knew to be a lie (they were contradicted what the waitress had said). Then when I mentioned this type of problem would make me and others never want to get a Visa gift card and instead get their competitors card, I got a big bucket of attitude. You would think a company would want to stay competitive by finding out from customers what they like about their competitors. I guess Visa is too good for that.

Customer dis-service

If you have a problem with this card, good luck getting it fixed. I tried to register this card online and it told me there was an issue and to call 888-524-1283 to resolve. The first agent I spoke to said I just needed to register my card online. When I explained that I had already done that, he transferred me back to the beginning of the automated system. The second agent did register the card for me, but he typed in my name and email address incorrectly and when I tried to fix that online, it told me it has to be 30 days. I called in again and got another agent who asked me for the card number and even though I spoke slowly and enunciated all my numbers, he still needed me to repeat it. I...

A Nightmare; Forget It...

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

I got a gift card but I cannot activate it. The merchant had no idea how to activate. I took it to my credit union and neither the tell NOR the Vice President could help me. They said "call customer service." Customer service is a maze of menu's and nobody ever actually responds to a call (totally automated) and you keep getting back to the same main menu. Every time you call you go through the same menu maze. Basically the card cannot be used (and so my birthday gift is a "donation" to Visa because it can never be retrieved. What a nightmare (they must be making millions if nobody can get their money out of it). Terrible experience (basically theft by fraud)

What a rip-off, terrible service and inflexible terms

Overall

Just got 4 gift cards as a gift from a business associate.  I'm finding them largely unusable and frustrating, which negates the good feeling of getting a gift in the first place.

I found that I can't buy anything that is more than the amount on the card, unless I go to a merchant who allows "split transactions" so they'll accept 2 forms of payment (of which there AREN'T MANY) and that I can't combine cards or refill the cards.  I basically have to make sure that all of my transactions fall exactly UNDER the amount of the card and then throw away the card if there's a little bit left since I can't redeem for cash or "split" my transactions.

You have to register the card to use it...

Just give cash

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

First off it sucks big time that they charge a fee for this card. And then they will charge you a fee if it's not used in 6 months. What a rip. I was only informed of this once it was too late. And right after Canada came out with laws making it illegal to charge a fee on gift cards! Visa sneaks around this rule because it is a "credit card" not a "gift card" Sneaky ********.     Secondly, the person I gave it to has had big problems using the card. Vendors don't seem to know how to debit it. Sportchek tried to do it, it got rejected, then they tried smaller and smaller amounts which went through. BUt because nobody understood what was going on they put the money back on the card. But it takes 30 DAYS for the money to appear back on the card.     THis card is not worth the hassle and its not worth the fee. Just give cash. If the person you are giving a gift to would appreciate a gift card, then they will appreciate cash even more.

VISA Gift Card is the WORST gift you can give!

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

NEVER, NEVER get someone a Visa Gift card as a gift. Just give them cash or an Amazon.com gift credit instead. The Visa Gift card has so many rules, fine print and restrictions on how it is used that it makes it virtually worthless. First, Visa charges a $5.95 purchase fee to the "gift giver." That doesn't sound like much, but can be roughly 10%-11% of a $50 gift card. Additionally, you have to register it before you can use it, regardless of its activation at the cash register. Forget to register it and they decline it at the checkstand. Additionally, any "service" business (hotels, gas stations, restaurants, etc.) will try and do a credit "pre-check" of an amount larger than what yo...

Get a visa gift card !

It is like having cash to spend.

Accepted at most retail establishments.

Great gifts for people who have everything or or hard to choose gifts for.

They can purchase anything they want.

Just make sure there are no fees associated with the card.

My Granddaughter was in 7th heaven, thinking she was a big shot

Overall
Rated 5 out of 5

Last Christmas I was going out of my mind trying to figure out what to buy my 11 year old Granddaughter.  When I went to the mall all I could think of was she is to old for toys, and I have no idea what kind of clothes to buy her.  She loves to play video games and watch movies.  Since I had no idea what kind of games or movies to buy her, I got the idea of why not buy her a gift card and she can pick out what she wants.  On Christmas Morning I never saw such a happy face as when she opened up her Christmas stocking and found the gift card.  It made her feel so special and so grown up, plus she got to get what she wanted and not something that would just be thrown in the closet because it was not the right thing.  I found that buying gift cards for everyone was easy and still fun for everyone.  Maybe this will help if you have to buy for a pre-teen or teen or even adults.

Give money... they charge a monthly fee for not using it!

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

I received a Visa gift card for Christmas 2008 (purchased on Dec.21, 2008).  It expires on Dec. 2010.  I have not used it and I saw on the card it says they charge a $2.96 every month after the 13th month.  The 13th month would have began on Jan.21, 2010.  Today is March 5, 2010 and they have charged fees on Jan1, Feb 1, and March 1st already.  They began charging fees before the 13 month period and when I spoke to customer service about it they said they charge it in the beginning of the month of every month and it doesn't matter when in the month that 13 months hit.  It's unfair to me because it hasn't been even a full 2 months after the 13 month period, yet I...

Visa cards are an inconveinent rip-off

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

Not only does Visa take money when you buy the card, but I have had numerous retailers refuse to take it. It just won't process through their tills. I think the problem is this: Visa says that you have to make purchases less than what is on your card. For instance, if you have $15 left on your card, you have to make a purchase for $14.99 or less. Good luck with that when your balance gets down to a few dollars making customers likely to throw it out due to the embarrassment of trying to use it at the till. I got these as a gift and would have much rather have had the cash or a money order or something. Much less cheesy than being turned down till after till and holding up multiple line-ups t...

Better than a Green Dot card

Overall
Rated 4 out of 5

The Visa Gift Card works just like your regular credit card. They can be purchased at almost any grocery store in the nation. The way they work is each card has a specific number on top of the package and says what they're worth. That is how much you have to pay for the card. Mine was a $25 gift card so I paid the $25 and then I had to pay a $3.95 for a purchase fee. So I actually paid $28.95 and have a card worth $25.

The Visa Gift Card can be used for purchases online after you register your card online. This card is non reloadable and cannot be used in ATM machines. Also it cannot be used for placing bets. An administrative fee of $2 per month will be deducted starting in the thirte...

Rules and use are so arcane one needs a translator to use it

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

At first encounter a VISA gift card seems like a great giift.  But try to use it.  There are so many riduculous rules it is almost impossible to get rid of these.  So much worse than AMEX gift cards.  Different rules for this worthless VISA card, one for restaurants, another for hotels, and other for online versus regular merchants.  Face amount recived was $55, but since they sent it to the wrong address and had to reissue, they subtracted $7.50 in face amount.  I called to inquire about the face amount at receipt and they said it was $55.00, but two weeks later they are singing a different tune.  Today they stated the card is only valued at $47.50.  I hope I never reeive one of these again.  The face of the card states Debit, but the instructions are to tell the merchant to swipe it as Credit.  In all these VISA gift cards seem like a scam.

All-Access Visa Gift Cards are Legal, Fine-print ROBBERY.

Overall
Rated 1 out of 5

I did not buy the All-Access Visa Gift Card, it was a christmas gift from my parents.

I would not have paid $5.95 to convert paper to plastic.

There is an EXPIRATION date(11 months) on the card. How does money expire?

The card itself does NOT, even in the fine print, state that there is a $2.95 MONTHLY FEE after 7 months and each month after that until it expires.

I have had/bought many gift certificates over the years, and none of them had any of these fees.

This card is designed to legally STEAL from people. They got $17.75 from my parents, who were just trying to give their son a $100 gift certificate.

If you don't mind throwing away $6, go for it, just make sure you let the person you are giving it to know that they need to use it within 7 months.

Personally I would not recommend this to anyone.
