This carrier is probably okay for short flights, or perhaps the first class seats are worth it. For me, however, this airline is not worth the hype. The seats are a faux leather. Great. It doesn't make them any cushier, sturdier or more comfortable than another airline. They certainly aren't roomier. There are screens in the seat backs, and you can pay $12 to access the internet (no VOIP, video or audio), but other airlines have the same advantages for long flights.
Personally, I found the stewardesses on my flight to be exceptionally rude--to me and to other passengers. I also thought the "mood lighting" did nothing except reinforce the idea that this airline is supposed to be hip. Perhaps the mood lighting justifies the $9 snacks they call meals. If people are finishing it in 5 bites, it's not a meal. At the very least, such a small portion of airplane food should not be so expensive.
Altogether, flying with Virgin America has been a disappointment. I really expected some of these amenities to make a long flight more comfortable. They didn't. Unfortunately, the rude crew members made what would have been a forgettable experience wholly unpleasant.
